Civil War Journals Guidelines 50 Points (10 points each)

You must complete 5 one page journal entries!

Typed, size 12 font, doubled spaced.

They will be graded on historical accuracy, following the guidelines, creativity and spelling/grammar.

All journals must have dates that are historically accurate.

Journal 1 - You must create an identity for yourself. It will include name, job, marital status, where you are from, children …etc. The second half will give your reasons for fighting in the war. (You are joining the Union Army)

Journal 2 - You must describe the training you receive in order to fight for the Union Army. Use the class boot camp and other sources (videos/books) to make it authentic. (Interview a veteran)

Journal 3 - Give an account of life in camp the night before your first battle. Use emotions you might be feeling and things you think you would be doing according to the research you have completed.

Journal 4 - You have survived your first battle. Describe what happened using a real battle to give a realistic feel to your journal. Must give a brief biography of a real battle worked into the journal. (Where, when, leader for North, win or lose, something unique to your battle)

Journal 5 - You have just received the news that the war has ended. Write an entry in your journal. (Try to capture the moment Union Soldiers heard the news)

Do not forget to date your journals! Hint: Date them after your write them! Be sure they are in chronological order and the events must happen in order. Example you can’t say you were drafted then fought in the Battle of Antietam because the draft started later.
