Mailing Address: Emergency Phone Number

Communicating with Camp Campers love to receive mail from home while at camp. A letter from home is an awesome surprise for any camper. You can send a message through the mail or by email. Remember it takes several days for the mail to get to camp. It is best if you mail a letter a day or two before your child gets to camp. You may also email your camper. [email protected] emails will be printed and delivered daily at lunch.

Mailing Address: Emergency Phone Number Cascade Lake 4-H Camp 208-325-8913 P.O. Box 298 Donnelly, Idaho 83615 Cell Phones Please leave cell phones at home. If you need to call your child at camp in case of an emergency, please use the Emergency Phone Number 208-325-8913. Cell phones found at camp will be turned in to the Camp Director or Camp Nurse and stored in a locked box. The phones will be returned to the campers at the end of camp. Camp counselors may use their phones at the discretion of the camp director. Adults may have their phones at all times in case of emergencies. Health and Safety at Camp All medications will be turned into the nurse upon arrival at camp. They should be in a labeled bottle with complete instructions. Camp will provide pain medication please do not send any to camp. These will be kept in the nurse’s cabin at all times. Campers are welcome to visit the nurse anytime day or night for any reason. Please include any medication instructions on the Camper Health form. Notify the Ada County Extension Office at 287-5900 of any changes in medications before camp.

Showering daily at camp is necessary for all children. Make sure your child has a towel and toiletries for showering. Camp counselors are instructed to urge campers to shower regularly, and encourage good personal hygiene. All showers are separate stalls with doors or curtains.

Bedwetting can be a potential problem for some campers. Campers are instructed to use restrooms before bedtime. If your child has a potential bedwetting problem please send an extra blanket with your child. Camp counselors are trained to handle the problem tactfully and discreet as possible. Bedding can be washed at camp.

Homesickness is a very natural reaction to separation from familiar surroundings and loved ones. Our camp counselors are trained to notice and deal with the initial signs of homesickness. Parents can help their children with homesickness before they come to camp. The best way to help is to talk to your camper about homesickness before camp and ensure them that it is natural, and encourage them to focus on the fun new experiences at camp. Sending a favorite stuffed animal or family picture also helps. Please do not tell your camper that they can just call home or you will come get them if they feel homesick. In extreme cases the camp director or nurse will contact the parent. Calling home generally leads to more problems and makes the homesickness worse.

Activities The counselors have quite the camp planned for you! There will be all sorts of fun activities and games to choose from: canoeing, archery, air rifles, outdoor cooking, swimming, craft workshops, campfires, flag ceremonies, GPS, games and many more. Teen camp will have a dance the last night.

Shooting Sports These activities are taught by certified 4-H staff and volunteers. All equipment is supplied and the strictest safety standards are upheld.

Canoeing Every person in a canoe is required to wear a life jacket and have a whistle. Campers must follow canoeing instructor’s directions at all times. A life guard is present at all times during canoeing sessions.

Water Activities We are very lucky at our camp to have access to Cascade Lake. Some activities will take place either in the water or by the waterfront, for these activities a life guard will be present at all times. Campers complete a swim test the first day of camp by the life guard(s) to determine swimming ability. Some campers may be required to stay in shallow water and wear a life jacket when in the water due to their swimming ability.

Transportation Transportation is included in the cost of camp. Campers will take buses to and from camp. Below is the list of stops and potential stops for each camp. A bus will stop at potential stops if enough children from that area are signed up and choose that bus stop. Please choose which bus your child will be taking to and from camp on the camper registration form. Due to the limited number of seats on the bus, it is important that you do not change bus routes unless you notify the Ada County Extension Office at 287-5900 one week before the departure day. If you do need to change routes, please call the Ada County Extension to check on seat availability. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to departure and check in with the bus placement counselor so that we know you have arrived. Bus schedule with times will be mailed out one week prior to camp. We will have several counselors and at least one adult with each bus route.
