BACKGROUND

Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) launches a new project called Community, Livestock and Agriculture Project (CLAP). The project is funded by International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD). The overall goal of the project is to contribute to reducing poverty in rural Afghanistan. More specifically, the project objective is to improve food security of 169,500 rural households in selected districts in the provinces of Kabul, Parwan, and Logar by increasing agriculture and livestock productivity. This will be achieved by enhancing productive assets, skills, services, technologies, and income opportunities of the targeted beneficiaries (i.e. by introducing appropriate livestock and agriculture technology options, strengthening local capacity, and strengthening some weak areas of value-chain, including linkages with markets). The project also aims at reducing gender disparities by increasing the social and economic status of women engaged in these activities.

Young Professional Programme:

CLAP programme finances “Young Professional Programme” (YPP), which allows young, national technical professionals recently graduated to work with the CLAP for a period of one year in order to acquire a practice-oriented, first work experience.

The young graduates will be working with any of the Service Providers of the CLAP- MAIL in their provincial offices. 1 Duties and Responsibilities:

1- He/she would prepare and present accurate verbal and/or written reports to the line pr oject manager of CLAP based in MAIL when required. 2- Working with project beneficiaries (women and men) to organize them in groups. 3- Participates in the meetings and trainings of women and men in the project interventi ons with a particular focus on gender related issues. 4- Records and reports success stories particularly of gender activities of the CLAP proj ect. 5- Being active representative of CLAP with Service Providers (SPs) in all project relate d activities. 6- Assists project team in all research and data collection activities in the respective prov inces. 7- Interact efficiently with communities, families, producer groups, cooperatives, village leaders, CDCs etc. 8- Makes regular field visit in order to make sure that project activities are on the right tr ack. 9- He/she would be responsible of timely reporting of the problems faced by the project in the field. 10- Assists in preparation of daily, weekly and monthly activity reports. 11- In case of need/or when asked, he/she would help DAIL director in preparation and or ganizing of the provincial coordination committee (PCC) meetings. 12- Assists in translation of technical information from English to Pashto/Dari and vice v ersa. 13- Participate in trainings/workshops for self-development as required thus ensuring the successful implementation of the project; 14- Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor. 15- Assist the division in daily technical activities.

16- Preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as appropriate.

17- Giving Monthly Clearance Report to Central Office.

Reporting Mechanisms:

 Any one assigned by the project director

 He/she will be based in one of the project provinces, and will be traveling regularl y to the project sites/districts for monitoring of the project activities and conductin g surveys and reporting on the progress accordingly;

2 Minimum Qualifications: The young professional Interns should be a fresh graduate from the faculty of Agriculture (Agronomy and Animal Husbandry) or Veterinary Science & Irrigation, Engineering.

Other skills:

 Written and oral proficiency in English language and both official languages of Afghanistan;  Ability to work with computers particularly Microsoft Office applications;  Work in the provinces
