*Simple Steps for Creating a Homepage with Netscape Communicator/Composer

(download a copy from here) 1. File/new/blank page 2. With cursor on writing area, right click then select page properties 3. Set name and colors for page (note tabs at top) Select general tab--type in title, author, one or two descriptive phrases. Select colors and background tab-click on background square and select color. You can also change the type color (normal text). Click on ok. 4. Type away as on a wordprocessor. (centering, changing letter size, etc.) 5. Add links to websites you have found. Type in name of site, descriptive phrases or instructions. Click/hold/wipe to highlight words you want to be links. Click on link on the tool bar. Type in the URL or location of the website (http://www....). Double check then click ok. 6. Save your page. Use oneword.html as format. NO SPACES. Check with your school as to how to save on your Internet server. 7. Try out the page on your computer by adding the filename.html to the URL your school/class account has on the Internet server (or file:///C| local/filename.html if you saved it in the local file of your c: drive) 8. Remember to press reload every time you make a change so you can see the new version. 9. Set the computers in the classroom to have your homepage as HOME by going to Edit/Preferences/Navigator and type in the URL or location of your class webpage if you have Netscape. For Microsoft Explorer go to Tools/internet options-general/address. 10. To make revisions or updates to your page, bring up the page in the Netscape browser, click file/edit page, then work on the page as with a word processor. Save with the same name in the same place, open the browser window again, click reload to see how it looks.
