Head of Year– Job Description

Job Purpose:

To be accountable for student attainment and progress in the Year group ensuring every student achieves and exceeds their potential

 To lead, manage and co-ordinate the strategic development of an individual year

within the academy in order to enable students to achieve the highest grades, value added and progress

 To lead, monitor and evaluate innovation and development of learning and teaching strategies for students within the year

 To be accountable for promoting and safeguarding students welfare and personal development as part of the year group and whole academy approach

 To take a full role within the academy community as a middle leader

 To facilitate and encourage a learning and support experiences which provide students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential

 To lead on raising standards of student attainment and progress within the year and across all ability profiles

Strategic Leadership & Development:

Support the development and implementation of the vision and strategic direction of the academy by:

 Reflecting its educational and moral aspirations and values

 Contributing to the whole academy self-evaluation.

 Contributing to the Academy Improvement Plan in conjunction with the leadership team

 Contributing to academy-wide planning activities

 Leading the process of monitoring and evaluation of systems in line with agreed academy policies and procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria. To seek/implement modification and improvement where required

 Jointly contributing towards the leadership and provision of the PSHE provision and work experience.

 Paying due regard to the academy’s equality policy and its application in the work of the student support system  Meeting fortnightly with line manager to formally feedback on progress and key issues in the year group.

Standards & Achievement:

 To ensure that the students in the year attain the highest academic standards and their minimum attainment benchmarks set by the academy.

 To ensure all students achieve and exceed their potential, reflected in a value added measure of 0 or higher in residual data.

 To ensure all students progress each year at least in line with the expected rate of progress

 To monitor each student against national data to ensure that they are making appropriate progress

Student Support:

 To identify and celebrate student attainment and achievement in all aspects of academy life

 To identify target groups of under achieving students enabling suitable intervention plans to be implemented and ensure students have access to the appropriate materials to “catch up”

 To promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and the year group as a whole

 To contribute to the preparation of action plans and other reports as require

 To monitor and lead the response to problems experienced by students and, where relevant, alert appropriate staff at a senior level

 To communicate as appropriate, with the families of students and with persons or bodies outside the academy concerned with the welfare of individual students, after consultation with the appropriate staff.

 To be responsible for the application of the Behaviour Policy so that effective learning can take place, and support the tutor team in application of the policy

 Providing support to colleagues in all matters relating to teaching including classroom management and student behaviour  Develop the celebration of student achievement

 Ensure challenging academic targets are known by students in the year group

 Ensure that homework is monitored and tutors enter into meaningful dialogue with families through the academy planners.

 Meet with students over whom there are concerns and contact home where necessary in conjunction with department heads/individual teachers.

 Oversee the progress of students in the year group with SEND, ensuring that IEP, IBPs are fully implemented.

 Attend statutory assessment meeting both internally and outside the academy.

Ensure students get good quality CEIAG for each stage of their progression

 Identifying, monitoring and supporting of potential NEETs

 Leading on monitoring and support of students in the FSM group within the year and report to line manager regularly on their progress and effectiveness of support

 Lead on the liaison with outside agencies.

 To conduct student voice on a half termly basis within the year.

 To attend parents evenings, information evenings and other academy events

 To monitor and report on attendance, and punctuality in the year group, ensuring steps are taken to meet the academy targets as set out by the appropriate senior teacher.

 To encourage and support parents in completing Parent view.
