Additional Equipment/Supplies Required: Computer, Speakers, Internet (You Tube) Activities:

Visual : Show video of Oscar’s promo commercial with lights dim and battery operated candle on. Ask if they know what's being advertised before the end of the commercial (when Oscars is revealed). Ask client: if they watched the Oscars? Who did they watch the Oscars with? Did they follow a routine each year? Ask client if they’ve ever been to the Oscars. If not, ask if they’ve ever been to an event similar where they may have had to dress very formal. Play an Oscar clip that’s happened at a time they could relate and see if they’re familiar with any movies that were nominated or won. Use the figurine and gold garland to talk about what they would’ve would have or did wear had they have gone to the Oscars or a similar event similar. Allow person who’s talking to wear or use microphone as they imagine or describe what they may have worn. With microphone in hand, they could say the famous lines, “and the Oscar goes to…” or give examples of what is said in an Oscar acceptance speech such as, “I’d like to thank my producer, my family who believed in me…” Discuss famous movies and actresses/actors that have won Oscars and whether or not client liked those movies. Talk about celebrity life and Hollywood and use silver platter to imagine how life could be different if client were a celebrity, actor/actress in Hollywood, Name pros and cons. Roll out the fruit by the foot candy and ask client what part of attending the Oscars would it remind them of. Show different clips of movies won or actors/actresses and have client raise hands with microphone to guess who they are.

Auditory : Play short audio clips from popular movies from client’s relevant time period have client guess what movie it is. Allow client to use clapper toy to imagine being at the Oscars. Or have client mention an achievement they’re proud of themselves for and to use the clapper toy for self -praise. Sing with client the Oscar theme song as it is played or work with client to come up with words for Oscar theme song and sing along. Give the client the giant diamond and have them guess shake for the money inside every time their favorite Oscar movie or actor/actress winners name is said. Encourage client to shake diamond in up/down, left/right, and circular motions with wrist, upper and lower arms. Challenge client to clap for themselves as proudly as they can using clapper toy, causing them to exercise UE (upper extremities). Tactile : Ask clients to close their eyes and place an item in their hand (sequins, microphone, garland, glitter gift bag, clapper toy, or silver diamond bank) and describe the feel of item, and have client guess what it might be. Ask client if they would have used the item if going to the Oscars and how. Allow clients to sprinkle sequins on surface and feel for them. Allow clients to place things in gift bag (perfume, breathe mint) that they would use in preparation for going to the Oscars. Ask client what's the greatest gift they’ve received from someone in recognition of an achievement. Have clients hold and feel the texture of fur, fancy party dress, old prom dress, or pieces of silk, satin, a bow tie, cuff links, fancy shoes, string of pearls and sequins and describe other types of fabric people's clothing (dresses and tux) may be made of out at the Oscars. Have client hold mic when they talk and observe how long they are able to hold the mic up. Adaptive equipment may be needed in grasping of mic for some clients like foam tubing. Ask client to hold trophy and give a mock speech as if they were at the Academy Awards (the Oscars) on a self-achievement they're proud of.

Smell : Ask client what their favorite perfume was or is? Have clients smell the perfume in the kit and describe the smell. Ask clients to name popular perfumes of their time. Have clients close their eyes and distinguish different smells of perfume or mints (such as spearmint or peppermint).

Taste : Ask clients what type of special occasion food might they have eaten if they were going to the Oscars? Or what restaurants did they go to in days of special occasions? What were they're favorite dishes to get? What foods/drinks do they think celebrities had on the day of the Oscars to celebrate? Give clients sparkling drinks (wine if permitted, water, and or juice) in wine glass and ask to describe the taste of each one or all three. Pour glasses halfway and discuss whether it's best to look at life as a celebrity with the glass half empty or half full in their opinion. Discuss the red carpet, its significance, and if the client watched the red carpet specials before the Oscars? Who were their favorite celebrities to see interviewed? Can they remember any memorable red carpet moments? Client can give a mock toast to celebrate an achievement or for anything. Ask the clients to categorize the taste of the breath mint, sparking beverage, and fruit by the foot candy in the categories of: sweet, savory, spicy, bitter, and sour.
