It S Drama Time

Jaffray School DRAMA CLUB OUTLINE Term 1

Drama Club - TUESDAY’s and THURSDAY’s Ages: Mixed (starting at age 7) Time: 3:15 – 4:45 7 weeks starting October 7th till November 18 (Theatre Training) Technical Rehearsal November 20 (2.5 hours) Class will end later this day Showtime Friday November 21 (Time to be announced)

Goal of Drama Clubs: It is our intention to ensure that all the students participating in the Drama Clubs are given an opportunity to express their creative selves in a safe and nurturing environment. Denise Bertrand (Director, Drama Coach and script writer) will give all students an opportunity to understand what it takes to be on a Drama Team by creating and performing together in an original dramatic play based on the student’s ideas, opinions and intuitions.

Objectives for the 7-week Program:

Weeks 1 Introductory activities including: drama games; exercises; improvisations; creative movement; vocal techniques to learn the “language of drama”. Through a variety of fun and stimulating activities students will find ways to open their creativity and share express themselves with fellow young actors. They will discover that sometimes they can be the leader as well as knowing that being a follower is also part of being on a drama team. They will learn basic power of voice skills so that their ideas can be heard. Their imaginations will be enhanced and very early on they will feel more self-confident in their creative expression.

Weeks 2-3 In these 2 weeks we will explore how to make drama characters seem believable. We explore how stories can develop into scripts. We will go deeper in our body language expression through gestures, creative movement and tableaux. First scenes will be written and developed through a variety of staging techniques.

Weeks 4-5 Students will have been cast into their role by now. The development of the Play is well on its way! Students will be expected to know their lines in the play. These two weeks as well we will block scenes (creating stage pictures for ease of movement and flow) as well as understand back stage disciplines. We will have discussions about our costumes, props and the overall look of the set design (if needed). Jaffray School DRAMA CLUB OUTLINE Term 1

Weeks 6-7 Script timing and Technical/Dress Rehearsals The young performers will now understand how discipline of voice, body language, co-operation and silence (back stage) is so important to the success of a Drama Production. We will rehearse each scene back to back, with our music ques to really know the timing of each scene. Costumes will be created. By this point in time the young actors have really taken ownership of the production. They understand how to co-create on a Drama Team even under the pressures (and excitement) of technical rehearsals! They are eager to perform!

PERFORMANCE Friday November 21 SHOWTIME TO BE CONFIRMED Parents, outside friends and family, school classmates and teachers will be invited to watch their presentation at the school.

Costs:  The overall cost for 24 hours of Professional Drama Training and Technical Rehearsals is $250.00.  There may be as well a small costume fee applied pending on the production. It is not the intention of Drama Clubs to showcase costumes. We want to showcase your child's confidence in acting!  Fees are to be paid to IMAGE on the first day of program.  There are no refunds if your child is absent for any class.  If the Drama Coach is absent, another IMAGE teacher will replace her for that day.  The Drama Club is limited to 16 participants.

We look forward to getting to know your child through Drama!
