I am an organised MA postgraduate freelance subtitler and translator (language pair Italian-English) willing to work with well-established companies delivering professional translation and subtitling services to develop my skills and increase my expertise, especially in the media and medical field.

Education

2009-2010 University of Leeds Full time MA Screen Translation Studies (predicted 2.1)

Subjects studied: Monolingual subtitling, Film Translation and Subtitling, Italian-English Specialised Translation, Computer-assisted translation tools, Machine Translation.

Dissertation: Subtitling of an episode of Report, an Italian journalistic documentary aired on national television (RAI 3).

 Extensive translation practice from Italian into English of a variety of text-types, e.g. newspaper articles, ads, EU legislation, patents, scientific and literary texts;  Worked well on my own and as part of a group in team projects;  Hands-on experience on workstations for producing and editing subtitles, such as ISIS and Swift;  Extensive monolingual and interlingual subtitling practice with different genres of audiovisual texts, including documentaries, soap operas, films;  Insights into different computer-assisted tools, e.g. translation memories and termbases, including basic training with Trados.

Work history

2008-2009 Liaison interpreter at the Vicenza Gold Trade Fair (English, Italian) I worked with an Italian firm which manufactures jewellery products and has its own stand within the gold fair that takes place three times a year in Vicenza, Veneto, where producers and buyers from all over the world. I assisted the firm manager and translated all the information on the production, models, prices and methods of payment to and from English and Italian and to follow any negotiation with foreign customers and new buyers.

2007.2008 Translator I worked as a translator for the Italian visual design company iO (http://ioagency.com/) for over a year. I translated a variety of texts such as internal documents, business letters, press reviews and a considerable part of their website.
