Megan Hilty at Cotuit Center for the Arts, July 31 Cotuit Center for the Arts and Mark Cortale present Broadway@Cotuit Center for the Arts featuring Megan Hilty, star of NBC’s star of NBC’s musical drama “Smash,” and versatile host and pianist Seth Rudetsky on Monday, July 31, at 7:30 PM. After graduating in 2004 with a degree in theater from Carnegie Mellon University, Megan Hilty made her Broadway debut as Glinda in “Wicked.” She went on to perform the role in both the national tour and in Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, Megan made guest appearances on many television shows, including “Bones,” “The Closer,” “Desperate Housewives,” and “Ugly Betty,” while also providing the singing voice for Snow White in “Shrek the Third.” In 2009, Hilty starred on Broadway as Doralee in “9 to 5: The Musical,” Dolly Parton’s adaptation of the popular film. Next, she joined the cast of “Smash,” playing Ivy Lynn, an actress desperate to land the lead in a musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. The New Yorker wrote, “Hilty has built a character who feels like a real Broadway diva: sexy, funny, ambitious, insecure, at once selfish and giving.” Hilty also played “Lorelei Lee” in the New York City Center production of “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.” The New York Times called the opening performance “one of those single, golden nights, so cherished by theatergoers, that thrust its leading lady into the firmament of musical stardom.” In 2013, Hilty released her first solo album, “It Happens All the Time” and joined the cast of NBC’s “Sean Saves the World.” She also provided the voice of the China Doll Princess in the animated feature “Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return” and the voice of Rosetta in the “Disney Fairies” series. Hilty returned to Broadway in 2015-2016 as Brooke Ashton in “Noises Off,” receiving critical acclaim, as well as nominations for Tony, Drama Desk, and Drama League awards. In the past year, Hilty has guest-starred on “Project Runway,” “Difficult People,” “Brain Dead,” and “The Good Wife,” released more two albums: “Megan Hilty Live at the Café Carlyle” and “A Merry Little Christmas,” and co-starred in the feature film “Rules Don’t Apply.” Hilty maintains an active concert schedule, both with symphony orchestras throughout the United States and in solo concert at smaller venues. Joining her on stage is Broadway aficionado and pianist Seth Rudetsky. Together they will weave stories and songs of Broadway past and present. Rudetsky is the afternoon host on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio’s “On Broadway” and the host of “Seth Speaks” on Sirius/XM Stars. He has played piano for more than a dozen Broadway shows and was the artistic producer/music director for five annual concerts benefitting the Actors Fund. He wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed semi-autobiographical off-Broadway show “Rhapsody in Seth.” He co-wrote and starred in the hilarious off-Broadway musical “Disaster!” which the New York Times called a “triumph.” Rudetsky currently writes a weekly column on Playbill.com and tours the country doing master classes and performing his one-man show “Deconstructing Broadway.” This performance is part of the “Broadway@” concert series produced by Mark Cortale, producing artistic director of The Art House in Provincetown. Cortale is also the producer of Rudetsky’s Broadway-themed web network, www.SethTV.com.
