COMPLIANCE AND GROWER MANAGER OPPORTUNITY APPALACHIAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Appalachian Sustainable Development (ASD) is seeking a Compliance and Grower Manager. This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate. You are an experienced professional excited to roll up your sleeves and lead. You will be a part of ASD’s sustainable agriculture team in an organization with approximately 20 staff and a budget approaching $2.5 million.

ASD operates a well-respected and nationally known food hub that has been in operation since 2000 – Appalachian Harvest. This experience puts ASD in the position to lead a major multi-state effort to create a farm-to-market distribution corridor that is funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The Compliance and Grower Manager will recruit growers, manage Food Safety, FSMA, and Organic Compliance as well as provide farmer technical support for wholesale vegetable production. The right candidate will have the ability to provide strategic direction and be a resource Appalachian Harvest farmers and the agriculture program team as a whole. Summary of Qualifications: The successful candidate will have extensive experience in agriculture (or education with some experience can be considered), be attentive to detail and possess strong organizational, planning, verbal, written and computer skills. Knowledge of Food Safety (GAP, Harmonized audits, Global audits, FSMA Produce Safety Rule, FDA Food Facility knowledge and Organic compliance with organic certification knowledge is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess the ability to work within multiple project budgets and timelines. Location and Compensation The full-time position will be based at Appalachian Harvest (ASD’s food hub facility) in Duffield, VA. The position requires travel to farms in northeast Tennessee, southwest Virginia as well as parts of WV, KY and OH. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
