Introduction The DIGIMIC classic microphone management system is intended for medium-sized to large-scale conferences. Development was focused on user friendliness and quick and simple system set-up (plug and play). Its interfaces provide connectivity to ex- ternal systems, e.g. a public address system, a clip-on microphone, etc. The system can – after configuration is complete – also be operated without technical support. It is naturally possible to connect a recording system with freely selectable recording formats (WAV, MP3, or others) and corresponding storage media.

1.0 Overview The microphone management system must comply with international standard IEC914. It is basically operated in wired mode, but can be operated in wireless or combined mode using corresponding addi- tions. The microphone units for wired mode are DMic via D9 cable as well as CMic and CMic CSV via connection adapter. The microphone unit for wireless mode is the DMic plus DDoc (docking station).

The system must allow an optimised and problem-free adaptation to various require- ments. The system must - feature an audio matrix with output assignments - have various microphone operating modes - be operable as a stand-alone system (without a PC) - have a LAN connection (control, update) - and also be controllable via PC and application software.

1.1 System Structure The microphone management system is designed as a single-cable (daisy-chain) system with automatic self-configuration and linear cable topology.

All key functions and controls of the system are to be operable via a menu-driven dis- play.

The various conference units, such as the various delegate units or rack-mounted units, must be easy to integrate.

The system is to use a single system cable to connect all conference units (shielded, specially twisted Brähler system cable) with stable, lockable connectors.

2.0 Conference Modes The conference system must include the following microphone operating modes:

2.1 Manual Mode Manual mode, i.e. floor request with allocation, can be operated using the application software (cf. description of DMicControl).

2.2 Automatic Mode The wired DIGIMIC is to provide the following different automatic modes: AUTomatic Up to 6 microphone units can be simultaneously activated. AUTFloat If the maximum number of active microphones has been reached, the delegate whose microphone has been activated the longest is re- placed by the new delegate. AUTNext The next speaker is to be automatically activated if a previous speak- er is deactivated on reaching the maximum number of active micro- phones. The microphone LED must blink to show an internal queue. AUTUnlimite All connected delegate units are activatable. VIP delegates are d treated as normal delegates in this case. All delegates must be able to independently switch off themselves or their floor re- quest in each and every operating mode.

2.3 VIP Mode Designated VIPs must be able to switch themselves on or off without affecting the op- erating modes MAN, AUT, AUTF or AUTN. Up to 6 VIP microphone units are to be simultaneously allocatable.

2.4 Microphone Voice Control (VOX Mode) In voice control mode the delegate units are to be activatable by voice alone, i.e. a delegate simply speaks into his or her microphone and the microphone unit is activ- ated automatically. Such operating modes are useful in pure debates without a simul- taneous interpretation system in the background. Four VOX conference modes (VAL, VAU, VALC, and VAUC) are to be available (cf. box). The wired DIGIMIC is to provide the following different voice control modes: VAL Voice control mode with a limitation on the maximum number of act- ive delegate units VAU Voice control mode without a limitation on the maximum number of active delegate units (unlimited) VALC Voice control mode including chairperson mute with a limitation on the maximum number of active delegate units VAUC Voice control mode including chairperson mute without a limitation on the maximum number of active delegate units

Additionally, it must be possible to activate programmable noise on the loud- speakers, enabling off-the-record agreements between the parties. Typical applications: courtrooms, executive conference rooms, banks, video confer- ences, etc.

3.0 DCen Control Console As a fully digital system, the control console has a broad range of functions and vari- ous interfaces, including the possibility of future enhancements. Hybrid mode, using wireless and wired delegate units, must be possible. As a basic version, the system can control 100 microphone units, but must be extendable via corresponding equip- ment. It must also be possible to add software control via PC or laptop, including al- location by name and logging. The compact control console provides wireless (inclusion of DSpark) and wired oper- ation. It has four connection branches to distribute delegate units or interpreter con- soles on up to four lines. However, delegate units and interpreter consoles are not be mixed in one and the same connection branch. The control console is designed for stand-alone operation (without a PC). For safety reasons, it has four separated switchable power supplies with a voltage range of 90 to 240V.

The following functions and features must be included: - Integrated audio matrix for output of various microphone signals, allowing separate allocation of various microphone groups (Out, Out 1…Out 4) - Free allocation of the internal audio signals of delegates and chairperson to various output interfaces, e.g. ADAT, AES/EBU, and analogue XLR - WordClock function: WordClock optionally as master or slave for connection with other digital audio devices - Various microphone operating modes, directly operable without interruption. The operating modes are to be selectable on the front of the control console via the in- tegrated menu-driven display. - Allocation of priority to the chairperson, including attenuation of active microphones 1 to 6 - Allocation of special rights for VIPs - The microphone units are to be allocatable to seating places. - A LAN connection must be available for a PC to provide remote control functional- ity (TCP/IP).

10.0 Special Applications The special applications relate to the chairperson unit and delegate units which are customised as desk-integrated units or as under-desk units and are produced in cor- responding numbers as required by the customer.

10.1 Desk-Integrated Unit (CChair-TM, CMic-TM) The desk-integrated units for the chairperson and delegates have the same function- ality as the standard delegate units (CChair, CMic), where the front panel can be cus- tomised to a certain extent. The arrangement of controls is the same as on the mobile microphone units.

10.2 Under-Desk Unit (CChair-UTM, CMic-UTM) The under-desk units for the chairperson and delegates have the same functionality as the standard delegate units (CChair, CMic), where the front panel is separately in- tegrated and can to a certain extent be customised to suit customer requirements. The arrangement of controls must to a certain extent also be customisable to suit cus- tomer requirements.

11.0 System Enhancements In respect of the functionality of its hardware and software, the system must be open to enhancements at any time. It shall permit overall safety and stability improvements. Maintenance/monitoring of the system must be user-friendly and should largely also be possible during ongoing conference proceedings.

11.1 Software and Conference Management The software shall steer the conference system and must be enhanceable and cus- tomisable in terms of its functionality and user interface design. The graphical user in- terface (geographical layout) is to be simply and quickly configurable to meet custom- er requirements.
