Volunteer Opportunities Administration Description: Assist the Zoo’s staff with clerical and administrative duties as determined.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Data entry, and/or typing  Filing  Sorting and collating  Photocopying  E-mail/phone calling

Requirements/Expectations:  Complete required training and orientation, and follow Zoo policies and standards  Computer skills and ability to use MSOffice a plus, but not necessary  Ability to interact comfortably with Zoo staff

Time Required:  Weekly hours, depending on need

Education Description: Assist the education department with special events, programs, and projects around the education office.

Duties:  Assist at special events  Assist education staff and interns with paid and public programming  Man arts and crafts tables  Design the Display Case  Assist with light clerical duties: such as, phone calls, mailings, posters

*If you have gone through the Docent Training and would like to become a volunteer, you are still able to assist with leading groups through the zoo and interpreting at exhibits.

Requirements:  Complete required training and orientation, and follow Zoo policies and standards  A background in teaching or public speaking is a plus  Volunteer on a consistent basis  No Meetings required, but you are more then welcome to attend This position does not include animal handling.

Special Events’ Crew Description: Assist the Zoo with Special Events: For example the biggest events- Festa Italiana in June and Spooktacular in October

Duties  Assist with particular zones at Spooktacular  Man activity and game tables  Man arts and crafts tables

Requirements  Follow Zoo policies and standards  No minimal hourly requirements, no mandatory meetings, does not need to attend docent training course. This position does not include animal handling.

Volunteer Summer Opportunities (Which can continue throughout the year, after a review) You must be at least 14 to volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering at the zoo, these are the opportunities we have available for the summer: Children's Center Volunteers: anyone who wants to help with the Children's Center, the barn yard. We need hard working volunteers who will be willing to help clean, feed and care for the Zoo's domestic collection. Zoofari Camp Volunteers: anyone who wants to help with camp during the summer. We need volunteers that have experience working with children and/ or animals. These volunteers will assist teachers with the crafts, games, snacks, and preparation for the days activities.

Docent Description: Assist the Education Department with interacting with guests while interpreting the Zoo’s collection, and participating in the Zoo’s educational programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Presentations (Education Animals, Exhibit Animals, and Biofacts)  Participate in Special Events and/or Programs

Requirements/Expectations:  Complete and pass Docent Course held in Feb and March (10 week course)  Follow Zoo policies and standards  Attend 5 out of 11 monthly docent meetings and 5 out of 11 monthly committee meetings  Must be 18 years of age (out of high school)

Time Required:  A minimum of 6 hours a month or 72 hours a year

Jr. Docent Description: Assist the Education Department with interacting with guests while interpreting the Zoo’s collection, and participating in the Zoo’s educational programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Presentations (Education Animals, Exhibit Animals, and Biofacts)  Participate in Special Events and/or Programs

Requirements/Expectations:  Complete and pass Docent Course held in Feb and March (10 week course)  Follow Zoo policies and standards  Attend 1-2 yearly meetings  Must be 14-18 years old

Time Required:  A minimum of 5 hours a month. During the school year the hours are completed on the weekends. During the summer the hours are completed on the week days.
