Instructions For Numbering Resolutions

Instructions for Numbering Resolutions

(Committee Abbreviation – Agenda Topic – Resolution Number)

1. Prior to Committee Debate: The resolutions that have been accepted (passed) by the Resolutions Evaluation Committee (REC) are assigned a three-part number:  The first part of the number indicates the committee from which the resolution originates; roman numerals are used to abbreviate the committee number.  The second part of the number indicates the item on the committee’s agenda that the resolution pertains to.  The third part of the number differentiates the resolution from others on the same issue; it is assigned according to the order in which the resolutions were evaluated by REC.

The committee abbreviations are as follows: GC- General Committee III- Third Committee I- First Committee IV- Fourth Committee II- Second Committee

For Example: GC-4-1 General Committee – Fourth Item on the Committee’s Agenda – First Resolution II-2-3 Second Committee – Second Item on the Committee’s Agenda – Third Resolution

At the end of the first REC session the Rapporteur must fill out each of the last numbers assigned to the resolutions, by committee, in “Form to Continue Numbering Resolutions at REC” (attached). This is for the evaluators to continue the numbering of resolutions during the next session of the REC.

2. During and After Committee Debate:  The Rapporteur places the Resolutions that have been approved during debate in a file, in the order that they were approved. This file is forwarded to the Senior Assistant.  For each of the sessions of his/her committee the Rapporteur keeps a log with the number of Resolutions that were approved, rejected, or were not debated.

3. Courtesy Resolutions: These resolutions may be introduced during the Closing Plenary session of the Model General Assembly. They are usually presented to recognize an outstanding delegate or country leader or to thank the hosting country, or any other such matter.

 They are numbered as: CR/1, CR/2, etc.

4. Statements: These are statements presented to the Assembly during the Closing Plenary Session by a delegation or group of delegations, for the purpose of information, complain, clarification, etc., on a specific issue.

 They are numbered as: MOAS-S/1, MOAS-S/2, etc.

5. Declarations: Include the declaration on the theme of the Model, introduced, voted and agreed by all head delegates at the First Plenary Session of the Model General Assembly. This will always be Declaration No. 1 (see below). Additional declarations may be proposed at the Closing Plenary Session of the Model General Assembly, where they will be debated and voted.  They are numbered as: MOAS-D/1 (MOAS theme), MOAS-D/2, etc. FORM TO CONTINUE NUMBER SEQUENCE AT REC

Rapporteur logs information at the end of the first session of the REC; head evaluator continues afterwards
