Welcome to the anatomy/physiology class at Arvada West!! I am so excited to share this class with you and I can’t wait to get started. This class is specifically designed for students who are interested in the health sciences and may like to pursue this field past high school. This is a lab-based class with emphasis on group participation and dissection, especially second semester. This class by nature requires a lot of memorization, reading, note taking, and other important study skills. This is a college prep class, so expect homework! Outlined below are some basic procedures and routines that will guide our class this year.

Materials: 1. 3-ring binder with dividers – I will be handing out a lot of paper, so organization is important! 2. Loose notebook paper – notes will be very important; the key to your success in this class 3. Colored pencils – for those important labeling worksheets. 4. Pen or pencil 5. Notecards – to help memorize all our body parts. 6. Glue stick

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS 1. Respect of self: attendance, no missing assignments, neat/professional work, no cheating, positive attitude, 100% effort in class. 2. Respect for others: Good, healthy discussions are educational. Harassment and degrading comments promotes ignorance, and is against school policy. Tolerance for everyone is a must!! 3. Respect of property: No defacing school property. Follow directions carefully during class and labs. Equipment is expensive, and you will be charged if you misuse it. 4. Respect the learning process: Everyone learns at a different pace. Help each other out, be part of the solution and problem solve together. Classroom Routines 1. Be in your seat when the bell rings. 2. Look on the board for the day’s activities and for the Daily Problem (they usually end up on quizzes or tests, so you should pay attention!) 3. Make sure you use the restroom during passing period. If you overuse your privilege during class, you lose it. 4. NO HATS! NO IPODS! NO FIDGET SPINNERS/CUBE! (subject to IEP or 504) 5. NO FOOD OR DRINK (except water) – it’s not my policy, it is a district policy (and its unhealthy when handling preserved specimen). 6. Make sure on lab days that your tables and lab equipment are cleaned up properly. 7. Cell phones only for appropriate use (NO games or social media).

Absences and missed work If you miss class for any reason, you should first check your Google classroom for your missed work, and then you should come into resource with any questions, to make up labs, etc.

You are expected to use Google classroom on a regular basis. The website can be used for the following:  You missed class and need to know what you missed  You want to print/ review the lecture notes and or PowerPoint  You lost your homework worksheet and you need to print another  You want to print the review sheet for the upcoming test  You want to access the web links for Anatomy resources… and more 1. Attendance policy is the same as the school-wide policy. a. Unexcused absence – refer to the Jefferson County Code of Conduct manual for details. b. Excused – can receive points for assignments made up. All labs must be made up during resource by the Thursday of the following week to receive credit (unless otherwise discussed). c. All homework needs to be made up within the allowed time given in the handbook (unless otherwise discussed) d. DO NOT ask me for missed work during class. Everything is posted and can be downloaded 2. Tardy Policy The school tardy policy will also be followed. Look in the student handbook for details.

3. I WILL NOT ACCEPT LATE ASSIGNMENTS EXCEPT: a. In the case of an excused absence. b. I expect that all of you have your homework completed by class time. Of course, if circumstances arise please communicate your needs. Be proactive, not reactive. Email me!

Additional Policies

1. If you come in tardy and an assignment has already been turned in, you lose the opportunity to turn it in because I do not accept late work. 2. Keep all of your assignments in your binder. If I make a mistake on your grade, you are the only one that can show me different. 3. Most assignments will be posted on my website. Details to follow. 4. There are textbooks in the library available for use during your off block hour. 5. The use of technology will be very important in this class. There are many amazing websites that will be accessed along with online versions of textbooks and the use of quia.com. If you will have trouble accessing technology, please let me know. 6. Test taking is a very important skill for college, so if you do not get at least 70% on a formal test, you have a chance to retake the test during the next resource for no more than 70%. Grading and Scales Your grade is based on a percentage scale in the following areas.
