Tech-Prep ORIENTATION TO CONTINUE ON TO PHLEBOTOMY CLINICAL PRACTICUM Summer 2015

. General Information a. There are a maximum of 40 seats available for clinical rotations this summer due to the number of clinical sites. b. Alternates will be notified of status changes as they occur. c. Students, who fail to meet deadlines, as described below, will lose their seat and an alternate will be selected to continue with the process. . General Course Information a. Complete appropriate HST course in High School with 80% or better. b. PLAB 1166 Clinical practicum is 112 hours of clinical. You MUST be able to perform clinical 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Exceptions for shorter days will be considered, this will result in additional days of clinical. You must notify the program faculty of the dates of college orientations, doctor’s appointments, etc. Family vacations may or may not work out. Let the faculty know the dates ASAP on the Student Rotation Availability Form. c. You MUST have dependable transportation, whether public or private. d. You may be placed at a clinical site near where you live, work or go to school but some travel within the Austin metropolitan area may be required. e. Check your e-mail frequently as important information and announcements will be sent to students prior to the beginning of class. f. Basic computer skills will be needed to successfully complete the course. g. Students who are assigned to a local hospital must purchase teal scrubs. School scrubs may be worn at other sites. If you purchase scrubs, they must be professional looking. h. Gloves are required for the 20 hour on-campus clinical at ACC. MAKE SURE THEY FIT. . Selection Process a. Students nominated by their high school instructor. b. Once a complete application has been accepted, students will be notified to submit their criminal background check (CBC) by a specific deadline. c. Once CBC clears, student will be notified to register by a specific deadline. d. Once the student registers, the student will be notified to complete the mandatory Drug Screening procedure through Pre-Check. Do not complete this until instructed to do so. e. Failure to meet deadlines will result in the student losing their seat in the class. . Criminal Background Check (CBC) a. Those offered a seat in the course will be notified by Karoline Gebert to submit the CBC. DO NOT submit your CBC before being notified to do so. http://www.austincc.edu/health/background.php. The cost is approximately $54. b. YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK BY THE STATED DEADLINE. Failure to submit your CBC by the stated deadline will result in losing your seat in the class. This will be offered to an alternate. c. Once we receive notice of a clear Criminal Background Check you will be petitioned for the course and will be you notified by email that you are cleared to register. d. Every student must have submitted proof to Mangus that they have a Meningitis vaccination in order to register. b. Each student will be notified of the section that they have been cleared to register for. c. Each student is required to register and pay by a stated deadline. Failure to register and pay for the course will result in your losing your seat in the class which will be offered to an alternate. d. All costs are approximate and subject to change and are the responsibility of the student. e. Tuition and fees $85.00 in-district, $287.00 out of district. f. The following miscellaneous charges apply to all students: $1.00 accident insurance, $10.00 malpractice insurance, and a $50.00 course fee. g. Students are required to read the Phlebotomy Student Handbook and complete the Statement of Understanding in Blackboard by the first week of class; regardless of whether or not the on-campus clinical has started. Drug Screening a. All students will be expected to complete a mandatory Drug Screening. This information on exactly how to complete this process will be e-mailed to the student once they have registered and paid for their course. The cost is approximately $50.00. 1. Total cost = approximately $250.00 for in-district students and $450.00 for out of district students. Clinical Dates:

Depending on the number of students, we will have two date ranges for training at ACC Campuses and practicum. Where you will attend will be determined by the Program Director.

Dress code for ACC clinical- scrubs or khakis/jeans and t-shirts- NO flip flops or shorts.
