Course Description: Math 7 is designed to provide insightful and rigorous exploration of number systems, specifically rational numbers. The course is a bridge and introduction to Algebra. The idea is to provide a quality foundation for entrance into Algebra I in eighth grade. Some topics covered: Number Systems, Data Analysis, Properties of Geometric Figures, Algebra basics, and Variables/Patterns

Standards/Objectives: The objectives for Math 7 will follow the USD 500 7TH Grade Mathematics Standards. The standards were developed using the Kansas state objectives for 7th grade Mathematics.

Classroom Procedures: The team of 7th grade teachers have establish a set of procedures that will be uniform from class to class.

1) Treat each other with respect and use good manners. 2) Come to class with writing utensil, paper, and homework. 3) No electronics during class. 4) No food or drink in the classroom. 5) Follow the NWMS Non-negotiable polices Classroom Policies:

 Grades Students will be graded using two types of assessments, practice and performance. For each objective, students will have practice and performance assessments. Practice will be 30% of final grade and Assessments will be 67% of final grade. Summative Writing prompts will be the additional 3% of their final grade.

 Homework Math is a subject that must be practiced. This means that we won’t actually have assigned days for homework but it will be an extension of what has been going on in class. We will start the homework in class. Depending on how much time and how focused the student is each do will determine the amount of homework that your student should bring home.

 Materials/Supplies Loose leaf paper Pencils Highly recommended: Scientific Calculator – TI 30XS Multi View (approx.. $15 to $18 depending on where you buy it.) The teacher will engrave it with your child’s name and return it to your child to have for homework/classwork.

 Expectations It is never ok to be hurtful and it is never ok to be disruptive. Those two rules will create the environment that will be the most successful and productive. Students will be expected to complete work to earn a passing grade. If they are having trouble they will be expected to come to tutoring after school until their grade improves.
