C. The school board commissioned a study of facilities and enrollment (current & predictions) this past fall. There have been rumors of school closings and/or re-districting in the past several years. Yesterday, there was a special meeting to present the results of a capacity study conducted over past months. This study goes hand-in-hand with the enrollment projections for the district as presented at the January School Board meeting. Together, these results could have long-term effects for district schools and students. Public Hearing – On the question of the possible closing of Audubon and/or Arrowhead Elementary School – scheduled for February 23rd at 6:30 PM at Arcola School Auditorium. The decisions will affect all schools, not just those closing. We need to be informing, educating and supporting.
D. Box Top Contest – The numbers are in – 5, 173 box tops have been collected. The class with the most collected box tops is Mrs. Navarrete’s class with 662, followed by Mrs. Cornish’s class with 659 and in third place, Mrs. Baker’s class with 515. Moving forward Student Council headed by Mrs. Beam and Mrs. Baker has offered to collect and count the box tops. We still need to discuss how often the counting will be done. The next contest begins now and the next class winner will be announced in June. Our goal is to routinely announce or post each class’s number of box tops.
E. Coordinating Council Report - Meeting was cancelled 1/26 due to the weather. Lisa Coupe forwarded an update. One of the council reps met with Dr. Zerbe, prior to the scheduled meeting. The school district has officially added a rider to its insurance policy to cover MCC and the H&S organizations for the remainder of the school year. As of last week, MCC and H&S have been covered under the district’s policy of insurance. Mr. Whiteleather will provide us with the Certificate of Insurance so we have proof of insurance for all H&S events. This is a huge relief for all of us and solves the immediate insurance problem we were facing as an organization. Dr. Zerbe agreed that MCC/H&S may need to continue on the district’s policy for next year as well to allow our organization to complete its formation and financial planning for future expenses, like insurance coverage. We will need to consider insuring ourselves at some point. The Coordinating Council needs to get the Quickbooks up and running with all the schools. Dr. Zerbe/Whiteleather are willing to organize and provide training for those involved so that we can get everyone on the same page. Getting our financial structure and finances in order needs to be our top priority. We also need to finalize our by-laws, vote on any changes, get them published on the website and deal with potential officer changes (if any) that will occur by the end of the school year. Once the by-laws are completed, each school will need to create new by-laws under our guidance. After the finances and governing structures are in place, we need to make headway on the conflict resolution policy. The next Coordinating Council meeting is scheduled for February 9, at 7:00 p.m. at MHS. F. H&S is proud to announce that two assemblies have been coordinated by Eagleville staff and funded by our H&S. Sadecky’s Puppets will be preforming, “A New Kind of Hero” on March 5th and The Magic of Nutrition Program will take place on March 26th. G. Mini Grants – H&S received a thank you card from Mrs. Cramer for grant monies that supported the purchase of toys for the holidays for our Eagleville families in need. VI. Treasurer’s Report – Tracy Courtney A. Fourth Grade T-Shirts – Cost $635.00 B. Movie Night – Brought in $646.00 VII. Teacher’s Report – Alison Navarrete
A. Mrs. Kraus – The Sock Fundraiser for the mosaic mural was cancelled. Not enough orders were placed. $3,200.00 needs to be raised to cover the cost of the outdoor mosaic mural. The artist is Jessica Liddell – website bellamosiac.com. She has work on display at Elmwood Park Zoo. Each class will have the opportunity to work with Ms. Liddell on the mosaic as part of the artist in residence program.
