Myles Elementary School PTA Primary Room Parent/Parent Volunteer Information 2015-2016

Myles Elementary School PTA Every Child, One Voice The Robert E. Myles Elementary PTA is responsible for selecting the Primary Room Parents (PRP) and Parent Volunteers for all classrooms. The Primary Room Parents and Parent Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in classroom activities, parties and field trips. Since there is always a high demand for the position of Primary Room Parent, the Myles PTA has instituted some guidelines for the selection process.

Procedure for Selecting Primary Room Parents/Parent Volunteers

1. The Primary Room Parent/Parent Volunteer forms are to be sent home with each student at the beginning of the school year.

2. The Executive PTA Board will hold a selection meeting of the Primary Room Parent and Parent Volunteers at the end of the first PTA meeting. Volunteers must be present at the selection meeting in order to be selected as Primary Room Parent.

3. Both Primary Room Parents and Parent Volunteers are required to be members of the PTA in the school year they are being elected. If any volunteers are not PTA members at the time of the selection meeting, the PTA reserves the right to not include their names in the selection.

4. If you were a Primary Room Parent for the previous school year, please refrain from applying as PRP for the same child for this year. This will give individuals who were not selected as PRP an opportunity to become involved. However, if no one has volunteered as PRP, you may apply at that time.

5. Prior to the meeting, the VP of Ways and Means will sort the volunteer names according to classroom.

6. During the selection meeting, the VP of Ways and Means will read each volunteer name out loud. If you do not hear your name at that time you will have an opportunity to add your name to the volunteer list.

7. The VP of Ways and Means will then select a member from the PTA body to draw a name for each classroom. Selection will begin with Sixth Grade and proceed to Kindergarten.

8. One name will be selected for the Primary Room Parent and the remainder of the names will be the Parent Volunteers for each classroom. If your name is selected as Primary Room Parent for more than one classroom, you may select which classroom you’d like to act as PRP in. Volunteers cannot be the Primary Room Parent for more than one classroom (volunteers can hold the position of Parent Volunteer for more than one classroom).

9. The VP of Ways and Means will assign Parent Volunteers (3) for the parties of each classroom. If a Primary Room Parent is a Parent Volunteer for a second classroom, they may attend their assigned party in the second classroom provided they are not needed in their primary room.

10. If only one person requests to be the Primary Room Parent for a classroom, there will not be a drawing, that individual will be designated as the Primary Room Parent.

If you are interested in becoming a Primary Room Parent or Parent Volunteer for your child’s classroom this year, please complete and return this form by Thursday, September 17, 2015.

As Primary Room Parent or Parent Volunteer, you must:

 Be a current member of the Robert E. Myles PTA. Membership is $5.00 per person, per year. If needed, a membership form is attached.  Volunteer for school functions when available. Please select at least one (1) event from the attached PTA Volunteer Form.  As PRP, you will be asked to contact other volunteers in the classroom to assist with parties, field trips or other events.
