Dear Friend of Mindfulness Programs,

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the upcoming 2011 Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP) Programs for expectant couples offered at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at UCSF. The class dates are:

Wednesdays, January 19 to March 16 Tuesdays, March 22 to May 9, Wednesdays, May 4 to June 29

The MBCP program is an invitation to begin or deepen the practice of mindfulness—moment to moment non- judgmental awareness of one’s unfolding experience—for meeting the profound changes of body and mind during pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.

Results from our pilot study published in the Journal of Child and Family Studies Special Issue on Mindfulness for Children and Families showed that pregnant women who take the MBCP course experience reductions in pregnancy-related anxiety and depression, and increases in mindfulness and positive emotion. http://www.springerlink.com/content/m5r63w06650483jg/

For those unable to attend the full 9-week course, there are will be two one-day workshops entitled Mind in Labor on: Saturday, March 12 Saturday, May 7

The focus of this workshop will be learning mindfulness skills to work with pain and fear in childbirth.

We are also pleased that our new Level 1 Professional Development and Teacher Training (PDTT) in Mindfulness-Based Childbirth and Parenting (MBCP) course was a great success and will be offered conjunction with the January MBCP course. This Level 1 Training was established in response to the increasing requests from perinatal health professionals who wish to establish their own personal mindfulness practice, learn more about the MBCP program, and be in dialogue with other perinatal professionals seeking to enfold a mindfulness perspective into their work. The Level 1 PDTT includes attendance in the weekly MBCP course with the expectant couples, 3 two-hour seminars plus an individual review session with Nancy Bardacke, CNM, MA the course instructor and founder of the MBCP Program.

Detailed information about the Level 1 PDTT program can be found at: http://www.osher.ucsf.edu/education/mbcptraining.html

All classes and workshops will be held in the new Osher Building at 1545 Divisadero St. (cross street: Post).
