Planit – bathroom design

Computer aided design software is now widely viewed as one of the key tools when designing a new kitchen, helping ensure that all the essential elements of the ‘hub of the home’ are included well before installation takes place. But good design doesn’t begin and end with the kitchen – consumers are now investing an increasing amount of time and money on the design and layout of their bathrooms and as such it is now recognised that CAD software also has a huge benefit in this design area.

Planit Fusion is well established as a major supplier of design software for the kitchen industry and is now developing tailored solutions for the bathroom market, as consumers recognise the benefits of a well-designed bathroom. Currently, around 75% of independent kitchen studios use CAD and as many as 50% of bathroom studios also use such software – a figure that is growing rapidly.

“Consumers are becoming increasingly ‘switched on’ to the need to consider the layout of their bathroom at the design stage” explains Planit Fusion Managing Director Craig Rothwell. “With the size of the average family bathroom shrinking, we are demanding more and more from the smallest room in the home. This is why it pays to consider all the functions a bathroom needs to fulfil before making any rash decisions on furniture and sanitaryware – in just the same way you would when re-fitting your kitchen.

“There is huge potential for CAD to establish itself as an essential tool in the bathroom design process and this is a market that Planit Fusion is now aggressively pursuing.”

One of the keys to Planit Fusion’s success is its strong partnerships with leading manufacturers, enabling the latest industry catalogues to be incorporated into the Fusion software. Strengthening its hold of the bathroom design market, Planit Fusion is now also forging links with leading players in the bathroom industry, including Ideal Standard, Twyford Bathrooms and Ceramic Tile Distributors’ Gemini range of tiles, enabling bathroom designers to incorporate products from the leading manufacturers into their room layouts.

“Our recent work with big players in the kitchen and bathroom industry shows the emphasis we are placing on key manufacturers in order to forge continuous relationships, encouraging the major players to include Planit Fusion as a key partner in their new product development cycles. This in turn, will help us to create accurate and progressive software solutions, delivered quickly and efficiently when new products hit the market,” continues Craig.

An excellent example of this ‘progressive software’ is the latest Fusion upgrade – version 16, which has a greater focus on bathroom design than earlier versions, including enhanced tiling features – an integral part of any bathroom design. With version 16, Fusion users can add individual decorative tiles to a standard tiling area, create a herringbone pattern using standard rectangular shaped tiles and create repeating patterns using a variety of different tiles.

With its superior graphics and exceptional presentation quality, Planit Fusion provides both bathroom and kitchen designers with a wide variety of 3D, photo-realistic visuals to incorporate into their proposals and presentations to clients, something that cannot be said of all CAD packages.

Craig Rothwell explains: “Until now, there has been no single CAD software available which truly crosses the boundaries of designing both bathrooms and kitchens using real manufacturers’ catalogues. Instead, the KBB retailer has historically been compelled to purchase multiple software products developed independently to cater for each specific design area. With the CAD market about to explode on the bathroom design scene, we believe that retailers should have the opportunity to work using a single software platform that delivers a credible solution to both kitchen and bathroom designers alike.
