Dear Parents,
Our first book report is due February 1, 2010. The Children are being asked to read a fiction book at their independent reading level.
The book must be one that your child has not previously read.
Their selection may come from the public/school library, class library, or personal collection.
Please have your child bring the chosen book to school by Thursday, January 7, 2010, so that I may approve it. They may bring it in before that.
Once the book is read, your child will need to prepare a “Canned Book Report”, using a large coffee can (or something similar.) Your child will need to cover the can with paper and decorate the outside depicting a scene from the setting and characters, or a scene from the story. The covering should also show the title and your child’s name.
Inside the can, each student will place ten items associated with the story. For example, a student might put in a red leaf since the settings of their story is in the fall.
Students must not put in more than two pictures/illustrations.
The student will then write ten complete, detailed sentences explaining the significance of each object. Attached you will find a scoring rubric that will be used to grade the project. Please review the rubric with your child before submitting his/her work. I have reviewed the assignment with the children.
Thank you for your help and support,
Sincerely,
