CONNELLSVILLE TOWNSHIP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOOL-PARENT and STUDENT COMPACT

Connellsville Township Elementary School strives to provide a high quality of education, curriculum, and instruction in a positive, supportive, and effective learning environment. Connellsville Township Elementary School’s essential goals are to enable the success of every student, ensure the involvement of parents and guardians in the education of their children, and to create a safe learning environment. The COMPACT committee agrees that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. To accomplish the goals set forth in this COMPACT, we pledge to accomplish the following objectives.

This school-parent compact is in effect during school year of 2015-2016.

The school agrees to:

1. We will address the needs of each individual student by: a. Analyzing standardized tests scores which will include: Study Island Benchmark tests, Stanford Achievement test, PSSAs, and AIMSweb testing. b. Provide intense intervention for students who are in need of instructional assistance. c. Provide enrichment opportunities for students who could benefit from such activities. d. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. Reports will go home three times per year and describe their child’s progress on either the Study Island Benchmark test or AIMSweb Benchmark test.

2. Hold parent-teacher conferences to discuss each child’s individual progress. a. A session will be held during the first semester. b. Individual conferences can be scheduled at any time if needed. 3. Invite parents to attend informational sessions throughout the school year. a. Meet the Teacher Night held in September. b. AIMSweb informational session held during the first semester. c. Informational parent session held during the second semester. d. End of the year Title 1 informational session. e. Other events will be announced throughout the school year.

4. Provide a safe and friendly learning environment. a. Continue the Bullying Prevention Program. b. Conduct assemblies that entertain and educate students in the school. c. Conduct monthly fire-drills and routine weather drills.

5. Ensure clear and open communication between the school, students, and parents. a. Letters and newsletters sent home on a regular basis. b. Update of Parent Portal routinely by classroom teachers. c. Update website routinely to provide parents with information regarding the events occurring in the school. d. Send out reminders using the Remind app to all parents who have registered. e. Provide access to staff through parent meetings, email and phone calls.

6. Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s parental involvement policy, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way. Meetings will be held at a time that is convenient for the parents.

7. Involve parents in the joint development of any schoolwide program plan, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way. Meetings will be held at a time that is convenient for the parents.

8. Hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in Title I, Part A programs, and to explain the Title I, Part A requirements, and the right of parents to be involved in Title I, Part A programs. The school will convene the meeting at a convenient time to parents, and will offer a flexible number of additional parental involvement meetings, such as in the morning or evening, so that as many parents as possible are able to attend. The school will invite to this meeting all parents of children participating in Title I, Part A programs (participating students), and will encourage them to attend. On the request of parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions, and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children. The school will respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.

9. Several meetings will be held, one during Meet the Teacher and one at a time convenient for the parents.

10. Provide information to parents of participating students in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon the request of parents with disabilities, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents can understand.

11. Provide to each parent an individual student report about the performance of their child on the State assessment in at least math, language arts and reading. These reports will go home during the first nine weeks. Parents/Guardians agree to:

● Show respect and support for their child, teacher and school. ● Support the School’s discipline policy. ● Encourage good study habits at home and at school. ● Keep the lines of communication open between the home and school. ● Monitor their child’s attendance. ● Serving on any boards or participating in any advisory groups as needed. ● Staying informed regarding my child’s education. ● Volunteering to assist the PTG in any way possible.

Students agree to:

1. Complete and return all homework assignments. 2. Ask for assistance when needed. 3. Treat students, staff, and all school personnel with respect. 4. Come to school prepared every day. 5. Participate in class and remain on-task throughout class. 6. Be a cooperative learner and carry out the teacher’s instructions and directions. 7. Be a positive role model to the other students in the school. 8. Make attendance a priority.
