Part A (continued)

Please describe the intended elements of this course. The purpose is to provide the basic conceptual framework for this course. After course development is underway, further details will need to be provided in Part B of the CAS approval process.

Course communications -- How will the change in modality (i.e. method of delivery) affect course communication such as student/instructor contact, peer-to-peer interaction, and/or group discussion? What purpose will on-campus meetings (if applicable) serve? What are the expectations for student participation in these activities?

Plan: Student/Instructor will communicate via ANGEL’s course mail (online), there will be one discussion boards via ANGEL each week on different subjects (i.e. case studies, nursing process) where the students will have a minimum number of required posts. Instructor will be available during pre-determined office hours and pre-determined chat via ANGEL. Students in this program are concurrently enrolled in a laboratory and clinical course thus will have the opportunity to be face-to-face with a nursing instructor. 4 weeks course complete: Adopting a state approved online LPN-RN program from Lower Columbia College – course is completed.

Methods of assessment/evaluation -- How will the change in modality (method of delivery) affect student assessment such as written assignments, lab work, research, quizzes and/or exams? How will you ensure the integrity of the evaluation process? Will the methods used to assess the general education outcomes and course outcomes differ from the methods described in the original course outline?

Plan: Methods of assessment will include but not limited to: Written and online assignments, quizzes, discussion forums, unit tests and a comprehensive final exam. The percentage will be assigned the corresponding letter grade, using the Nursing Program scale as identified in the Nursing Student Handbook. Minimum passing grade is 77%. Methods of assessment for this online program will not differ from the on-campus program except for discussion forums will be monitored daily by the instructor. 4 weeks course complete: No change from the current plan. Each unit, which is 1-2 weeks, contains assignments that will be the methods of assessment. Please see syllabus and ANGEL for specific details on the assignments.

(For example, participation in blogs or wikis, listening to podcasts, etc.)
