Janis graduated from Tucson High School and 25 attended the University of Arizona for an associate’s degree; and 26 27 Whereas, in 1953, she married her college sweetheart, Roland G. 28 Kuhel, and had four daughters. As a young mother, Janis started a 29 business selling homemade bread while studying nutrition and 30 using freshly milled flour; and 31 32 Whereas, her love of adventure led her to work for the FBI and 33 Hughes Aircraft, and she enjoyed singing country ballads with 34 friends. Janis was a rodeo barrel racer and rodeo princess, as well 35 as an avid skier and extraordinary tennis player; and 36 37 Whereas, a member of the Junior League of Tucson, she continued 38 her service as a sustainer until the age of eighty. In addition, Janis 39 was a member of the Tucson Rotary Club; and 40

[4449] 2 1 Whereas, Janis sold real estate with Shadron Realty and Tucson 2 Realty. Later, nutrition was a natural beginning to her career as a 3 coordinator with Shaklee; and 4 5 Whereas, Mount Lemmon played a big role in Janis’ life. She 6 hosted Fourth of July parties at her cabin, with guitars and singing 7 around the campfire. Janis founded and ran the Mount Lemmon 8 Junior Forest Rangers. While active with the Saguaro Ski Club and 9 junior ski racing team, she helped expand the ski area for Al 10 Grossman. Her passion for life and adventure attracted young and 11 old alike; and 12 13 Whereas, Janis Cotten leaves to cherish her memory her husband, 14 J. Karl Meyer of Tucson, Arizona; daughters Diana Kuhel Osborne 15 (John) of Arizona, Theresa Kuhel Miller (Harold) of Columbia, 16 Sally Anne Kuhel of California, and Julia Kuhel McKee of 17 Arizona; their children and grandchildren; and a host of other 18 family members and friends. She will be missed. Now, therefore, 19 20 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 21 22 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 23 by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of 24 Janis Claire Cotten of Arizona and extend the deepest sympathy to 25 her family and many friends. 26 27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 28 Theresa Kuhel Miller of Columbia for the family. 29 XX 30
