Crestwood High School Physical Education I Rules and Procedures Instructors: Mrs. Holler, Mrs. McKinney

I. Objectives: To provide students with knowledge and skills for life-long health and fitness

II. Dress Code/Materials: All students are expected to dress EVERY day for PE. Clothes must be different than those worn to school and must be proper attire.

*****All students must also have a folder specifically for PE.

Proper attire consists of: (Always follow the school code of conduct)

1. Shorts or sweatpants

2. T-shirts or sweatshirts

3. Athletic shoes only—sandals, flip flops, boots, boots, street shoes and dress shoes not permitted

4. Socks

5. Proper support for males and females

6. No extreme jewelry such as long necklaces, hoops, or bracelets

7. Long hair should be tied back

III. Rules:

1. Gum, food and drink are not permitted in class. Clear water bottles are permitted at the track.

2. Care of equipment—please handle equipment with care and help teachers and gym aides when necessary.

3. You must be in the locker room when the bell rings or you will be tardy.

4. Before and after class stay in the locker room with the teacher.

5. Do not touch the basketball supports such as nets, hoops etc.

6. Do not handle equipment without permission. 7. Stop what you are doing when you are asked! Clean up immediately when asked. Failure to do so will result in a teacher assigned detention.

8. Overly aggressive behavior is not tolerated.

9. Profanity, disruptive behavior, and complaining are not acceptable.

10. No cell phones are permitted in the gym. They will be confiscated!

IV. Disciplinary Consequences:

Depending on the severity of the behavior, you will be given a verbal warning by the teacher and a possible conference with a parent. Students will be referred to the office in the case of severe abuse. There will be additional consequences if you do not comply with the dress code or rules, or do not dress for class. (See section VII)

Notice: Any student who fails to participate more than 17 days in a semester for any reason (medical or absences) will automatically be withdrawn from the class. Students withdrawn for medical reasons will receive a WP (withdrawn passing)

V. Attendance and Participation:

Unexcused Misses: Including non-dresses and unexcused absences from class. You may NOT make-up the day in PE. No credit will be given.

Absent-excused by parent: You may make-up these days for the first 10 absences, in accordance with the district policy on attendance. After 10, all absences and non- participation days will be unexcused.

*Notes from parents for non-participation due to illness or injury will be accepted as excused absences. Only 2 are permitted per nine weeks and should be made up by the student.

Absent excused by physician: You are permitted make-up any non-participations/absence for an illness or injury as long as it is excused by a physician and does not exceed the 17 day limit.

*Students are required to supply the attendance office with a physician’s note to excuse any and all absences. Students who exceed the limit for excused absences in one or more classes may not be permitted to make-up their work.

VI. Make-ups: Missed participation due to illness or injury (that is excused) may be made-up by writing reports, completing PE packets, or taking an extra PE class during a study hall or lunch (only if PE is offered that period and it is approved by the teacher). It is the student’s responsibility to make-up excused absences.

VII. Not Dresses: If you forget your clothes for class, clean, school appropriate clothes will be provided for you for the day. However, you will lose points if it is a continuous problem. Each time a student has to borrow any article of clothing that is required for class, 2-3 points will be deducted from your points for that day. IF you refuse to wear the clothes given to you, disciplinary action will be taken.

First offense: Hand write out rules and you will be given a 0 for that day.

Second offense: Teacher assigned detention, 0 points for the day.

Third offense: Office referral, 0 points for the day.

*Insubordination will result in an office referral.

VIII. Grading: You will be graded on a daily basis. You can earn up to 10 points a day. In order to earn all 10 points you must: Dress, walk and jog at the beginning of the class, stretch, participate with good effort, and demonstrate good character.

*Final exam will consist of post fitness test as well as completion of a final exam project.

*Grades will also be given for the state mandated assessments.

i. Pre and post physical fitness testing

. Height/weight . Sit ups

. Body fat . Push ups percentage . Shuttle run . Mile run

. Pull ups . Flexibility

ii. Movement skills: Students must be able to demonstrate combined movement skills and patterns in authentic settings. Students will create their own line dance.

iii. Tracking: Students will be required to track their regular physical activity.

iv. Physical activity plan: Based off of their current level of activity, students will be required to research available community fitness resources and create a plan to increase their level of physical activity.

v. Marketing campaign: Students must develop a marketing campaign for their own choice of activity to promote personal growth.

vi. Portfolio: students will be required to maintain a portfolio throughout the semester that will contain their fitness assessment results, their reflection on these results, as well as a daily PE log.

IX. Locker Rooms: There are not enough lockers in the locker room for each student, so please bring your clothes with you each day and take them home each day. Personal belongings such as expensive jewelry, money, etc. Should not be stored in lockers. See teacher if you need to secure those belongings.

X. Daily Class Procedure: Each day will consist of:

 Meet in the locker rooms, dress and wait for the teacher to go up to the gym. Do not go up without permission.

 Locate your portfolio for your daily log

 Warm up (walk, then jog)

 Stretch

 Explanation of the days activity

 Show good participation effort and good sportsmanship

 Line up at the door and wait to go down to the locker room.
