Farm Workshops to be Offered at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial

On Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 10:00am to 12:00pm CST, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial will host the first in a series of hands-on workshops concerning the operation of the living historical farm planned for this year. Working with Family Roots Nursery, park staff has been researching historic varieties of crops and farm techniques that Thomas Lincoln would have likely used on his Indiana farm in the 1820s. Planned to coincide as closely as possible to seasonal patterns, the workshops will examine such topics as ground preparation, seed starting, ground cover, cold crops, harvesting and seed preservation. Each workshop will begin in the Memorial Visitor Center with a short lecture by personnel from Family Roots that will be followed by hands-on work at the living historical farm with staff from the national park. Additional workshops will be held on April 9, May 14, June 25, July 9, August 20, September 24, and October 22. There is no charge for the workshops beyond the park entrance fee.

Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is located off of Indiana Highway 162 in Lincoln City, Indiana. Admission to the park, which includes the Lincoln Living Historical Farm, is $3.00 per person, age 17 and older, with a maximum charge of $5.00 per family.
