LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings:

To all of the Veterans who served with the 224th Infantry Regiment in Korea, and to their family and friends who attended our 6th Reunion, thank you! Thank you for coming and joining together in friendship and support. This Memories Book will help us remember the 6th Reunion held in St. Louis, Missouri May 17-21, 2006. . One hundred and thirty veterans, spouses’ relatives and friends attended the reunion. Arrivals began on Wednesday, May 17th with the Hospitality Room open for meeting and greeting. That night we enjoyed the spectacular view from the hotel’s top floor overlooking the city, while enjoying a delicious buffet dinner

Thursday, May 18th we enjoyed a guided tour of St. Louis stopping at the Gateway Arch. We traveled through the city viewing lovely old neighborhoods. Lunch was at the Union Station which opened in 1894 and was restored becoming a National Historic Landmark. That night we gathered to enjoy a dinner cruise on a paddlewheel riverboat while listening to some Dixieland. We traveled up the Mighty Missippippi River viewing city lights and the St. Louis Arch.

Once again our Reverend John Thomas, with the assistance of his wife Anzie held a moving and prayful memorial service. Our own, Tom Street played Taps. We also were treated to the touching sounds of a bagpiper playing during the service.

Friday brought us a tour of St. Charles’ Historic area. We browsed through the shops, relished lunch then headed back to get ready for the company dinners. Buses picked us up taking us to the river, where we ate at two restaurants, where we were able to spend more time reminiscing.

Saturday morning we headed for the Daniel Boone Home. Next moving to the Mount Pleasant Winery we enjoyed lunch and a taste of the fruit…of their labor. That evening we all gathered for the Banquet. We enjoyed the dancing of Ladies from the Korean Cultural Society of St. Louis. Young Naval Cadets conducted our flag presentation. Our standing officers were all recognized for their on going support. I was given a Memory Box of all the metals I earned during my time served. Our orchestra was the highlight of the evening playing songs that we all remembered.

Sunday morning the ladies all met in the restaurant for a group breakfast while the business meeting was taking place. Our current officers and advisors agreed to extend their terms. We continue to thank and recognize the officers and their assistance in putting this reunion together: Bob and Irena Normandia, Dick and Bonnie Donahue, Richard and Marylou Armacher, Jack Zuker, Min and Mary Tomi, and Hugh Dame.

We especially wish to thank and recognize Bob West for taking these pictures and making this Memory Book possible. Until we meet again….

God Bless you all and God Bless America, Ray Fanning
