Welcome to the 2013-2014 School Year! We are pleased to have you as part of our Carrollton Family. We believe that every child can and will achieve at high levels and we, the staff at Carrollton Elementary, adhere strongly to this belief that every child deserves the best education, and with your support, all of our children will become successful lifetime learners.

Parents play a key role in the academic success of our students; therefore, school/parent communication is crucial.

 Expect homework Monday through Friday, and projects on a regular basis;  Plan to sign weekly correspondences; and most importantly  Allot time for reading and practicing basic math facts with your children on a nightly basis.

Our instructional program will be far more effective with your active participation. WE NEED YOUR HELP!

During the first week children will be bringing home a lot of information and we would like to highlight the school-wide efforts that we need you to pay close attention to.

1. All children should bring home a Free and Reduced Lunch Application. We are requesting that all our children apply for the program to ensure that no one who is eligible is left behind. To help in this effort the first three classes that return 100% of the applications will receive a special prize. Instructions: a. Fill out one application per family. Return ALL forms to your child’s teacher. b. If you filled out and sent the application over the summer, please complete the Application Status Form and return that to your child’s teacher. c. Some families will receive a Spanish and English version. Fill out only ONE of the two. Because of your effort and participation every year, we receive additional money from the government as a Title I school, which allows our school to be staffed with additional resource teachers.

2. Please READ and SIGN your Home-School Compact. It is important that everyone understands what the expectations are for the parents and the students, and what we as a school pledge to do. As a Title I school this is a must. 3. Fill out each family card with complete and accurate information and sign them on the back. Please make sure that you inform the school of any changes in your contact information, we need it in case of an emergency. 4. Please make sure your child’s immunizations are up-to-date, and that you inform the school of any new immunizations they may receive throughout the school year. Our Board Policy establishes all children MUST be in compliance in order to be in school. You can find the requirements at www1.pgcps.org, under parents. 5. Please read your new Parent Handbook. It contains all the information you need to know about Carrollton Elementary and the Board Policies and Procedure. Please discuss it with your children. The Handbook can be found on our website under the parent tab. 6. Please note the programs prices: all children will have free breakfast via Breakfast in the Classroom; Lunch is $2.60 (full). Extra juice or milk is $0.55. Money can be deposited into your child’s account at any time, in-person or on-line. You may deposit any amount up to $99.99. You may pay in cash or personal check. Checks can be made out to PGCPS Food and Nutrition Services and are subject to a fee if returned. Prince George’s County Public School policy states that students without a lunch or lunch money will be served a cheese sandwich. 7. Uniform Policy - Carrollton Elementary School has a MANDATORY uniform policy. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making certain that your children are dressed in appropriate uniform attire. All students must be in complete uniform every day, including; solid navy blue pants, shorts, skirts/jumpers; white collared polo shirts (Sweaters/jackets worn in the classroom must also be solid white or navy); navy blue or white tights and, solid black shoes only. Throughout the year we will have non-uniform days however we will notify parents ahead of time for those events. 8. Bus Stops Schedules - Bus Stops Schedules will be mailed to you by the Prince George’s County Public Schools Department of Transportation. Schedules can also be viewed by visiting the school system’s website at www1.pgcps.org. Click on the Transportation link. Please take the time to review both morning and afternoon bus numbers with your children, and make certain that your children are at the bus stop at least ten minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time. If at all possible please have a flexible schedule the first week of school just in case bus problems occur.

We look forward to partnering with you closely throughout the school year as we work together towards the betterment and proper education of our children. We encourage you to show your presence at the school as much as possible and to monitor your child’s homework and study habits. Again, you are the key to their success.
