FIRE / EMS DISPATCH DIRECTOR REDCOM FIRE & EMS DISPATCH CENTER SONOMA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Sonoma County's Fire & EMS Dispatch Center operated by the Redwood Empire Dispatch Communications Authority (JPA) is seeking applications for Director of Communication. REDCOM provides services to over 50 local cities, districts, county and state agencies, including both public and providers. The ideal candidate would possess strong leadership & team building skills and have knowledge of 911, fire/EMS communications systems.
The center dispatches ~45,000 calls annually with a staff of 20 fulltime employees. The center is managed by American Medical Response under contract to the JPA. The Director is an AMR employee who reports to both the General Manager & JPA Board and is the primary contact for the stakeholder groups.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, eligible to work in the U.S., and be fluent in English both written and spoken. Computer literacy and certification of the ability to type 35wpm or faster are required of all. Five years progressive managerial experience in EMS and Fire Communications, two years experience in a Director-level position in a high performance multi-service level and multi-public safety discipline environment with a minimum call volume of 50,000 calls annually and utilizing system status management, CAD, AVL/GPS, and mobile data transfer technology; or, a minimum of 2 years experience as a REDCOM dispatcher or supervisor combined with a minimum of five years progressive managerial experience in a business or government environment with complete budgetary and personnel management responsibilities. NA/EMD certified and NA/EFD certified or the ability to become EMD and EFD certified within three months of hire. Training is required to the ICS-300 level (ICS-400 preferred), California Fire Chiefs Association IDT, and NIMS IS-700. Candidate must have experience with budget preparations and administration, and labor unions as well as effective written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of and skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access for Windows are required.
Desired qualifications include NA/EMD certification, NA/EFD certification, Firefighter-I certification, Firefighter-II certification, CPR for Healthcare Providers certification, EMT certification, Paramedic certification, ICS-400 certification, and bi-lingual English/Spanish. REDCOM is located in the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters. All candidates must successfully undergo a complete and thorough background investigation by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department prior to being hired. This investigation includes fingerprinting and possibly includes polygraph and/or voice stress analysis testing.
