About the work area UWA Sport forms part of the Division of Student Life, which is managed under the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Education) portfolio. Sport and Recreation is an important part of campus life and the student experience at The University of Western Australia. UWA Sport aims to enhance the reputation of the University through the performance of sporting clubs, teams, and high profile athletes, whilst also providing an outstanding student experience through participation in Sport, Fitness and Recreational activities.

UWA Sport provides professional management of the fitness, sports and recreation facilities, clubs, programmes and activities of the University. UWA Sport works closely with all stakeholders and external strategic partners in delivering sport and physical recreation opportunities for the University community in accordance with strategic and operational plans. This includes managing the fully equipped Recreation and Fitness Centre; the courts and playing fields on the Crawley Campus; the 33 hectares of sporting facilities and playing fields at UWA Sports Park; and the martial arts centre at Claremont Campus. In addition, UWA Sport operates the Watersports Complex situated on the Swan River providing world class outdoor activities.

Reporting Relationship This role reports directly to the General Manager, UWA Sport whilst also working in partnership with various roles and support structures from the Division of Student Life. Role Statement The Marketing, Communication and Events Manager is responsible for the overall strategy, activation and execution of the marketing, communication and event activities of UWA Sport.

The Marketing, Communication and Events Manager will drive the delivery of key university sport event initiatives that form part of the wider marketing strategy and fall under the UWA Sport portfolio.

The overall aim of the Marketing, Communication and Events Manager is to ensure that the portfolio of sport serves the wider interests of the University, achieves sustainable business outcomes and creates positive engagements that increases the experience rating of not only the student but the wider university community.

Key responsibilities Marketing and Communication – 60%  In consultation with the UWA Sport business unit managers and Division of Student Life, design and implement a portfolio wide sport marketing strategy that drives business sustainability and supports the successful delivery of the organisation goals.  In consultation with the UWA Sport business unit managers and Division of Student Life, design and implement required marketing campaigns and activations that deliver positive business outcomes and increase engagement across all stakeholder groups.  Develop innovative and engaging campaigns that leverage the strength and availability of digital platforms and tools.  Develop accurate design briefs for efficient production of required marketing and communication assets.  Develop a proactive strategy that develops and adds to the existing photo library assets of the organisation.  Develop and deliver a proactive student practicum/intern program that engages the UWA student population in the activities of UWA Sport and provides valuable work experience opportunities.  Produce and collate content for internal and external platforms and publications, ensuring all platforms are leveraged to maximum benefit and that current content is consistently available to target audiences.  Manage the portfolios various marketing and communications databases and distribution lists.  Review, create and effectively communicate UWA Sport’s marketing policies and procedures, including style and brand guide.  Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies and campaigns by providing appropriate metrics and measures.  Prepare media statements and other communications as required.  Liaise and maintain working relationships with the relevant University offices that relate to marketing, brand, communications and content.

Event Management– 30%  Create and implement relevant sport and health & wellbeing events that support and positively impact student engagement and value add to the student experience at UWA.  Create and implement relevant marketing and PR events that increase the profile of UWA through the sport portfolio as well as positively impacting on the organisation business goals.  Create and implement experiential style events that add to the campus life experience of students, staff and the wider UWA community.  Complete the planning, delivery and promotion of UWA Sport key events such as ODay and UWA Open Day participation.  Design and deliver project plans, risk management plans and budgets relevant to events.  Delegate event related tasks across the wider UWA Sport team.  Manage event related stakeholder groups and invitee lists.

Other Association – 5%  Be an integral part of the UWA Sport Pty Ltd team.  Other duties as required by the General Manager of UWA Sport Pty Ltd.

Occupational Health and Safety - 5%  Comply with the University’s, UWA Sport Pty Ltd.’s and other regulatory bodies’ policies and procedures.  Take reasonable care to ensure personal health and safety in the workplace.

Specific work capabilities (selection criteria)  Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.  Experience in business/commercial style marketing and brand development as it relates to sport and sport events.  Tangible success in designing marketing strategies and plans that achieve overall sales and commercial targets, ideally in a sport membership or event ticket sales environment.  Tangible experience in the creation, coordination and successful delivery of brand activation, PR, experiential or other like events. Including but not limited to concept creation, planning, budgeting, risk management, metric measurement and event review.  A professional understanding of digital and social media platforms, with tangible results in leveraging these tools to increased business results.  High level of written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare community interest stories, media statements, marketing collateral, presentations and reports.  Ability to produce high-level marketing content that engages the target market and drives desired results.  Proven ability to engage, consult and negotiate with multiple and diverse stakeholders, including staff, suppliers and customers.  Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a member of project teams and achieve outcomes individually and through others to achieve team goals.  Demonstrated ability to multi task and deliver on deadlines.  High-level computer skills, including MSOffice applications and Adobe InDesign.  Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility.  First Aid Certificate
