A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Hazel G. Porter. With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Hazel G. Porter, and we pause in silent reverence for her soul. WHEREAS, Hazel G. Porter was born on August 14, 1916, a native of Liberty, Casey County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky, and she traversed these earthly bounds on March 1, 2001; and WHEREAS, Hazel G. Porter was the loving daughter of the late Less and Leutie Wash Combest; she was the loving mother of two daughters, Patti Porter and Sheila Eskue, both of Frankfort; and she was the proud grandmother of two grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Hazel G. Porter will best be remembered for her loyalty to the Kentucky "Wildcats," an enthusiastic devotee, and ever-faithful "true-blue fan," who was well known by the University of Kentucky Athletics Department, as well as Kentucky's sports columnists; and her colorful personality led her to write "Boo Ray Mears" in the guest log at the rest area entering the State of Tennessee, once offering her eyeglasses to an official during one of the games, and brandishing a cardboard cutout of former University of Kentucky basketball coach Rick Pitino in the foyer of her Frankfort home, but she denied the rumors of twenty-five years past that she threw a pie in the face of a sportswriter who reprimanded her beloved Kentucky Wildcats in print; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Hazel G. Porter has left a void that cannot be filled, and she is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Hazel G. Porter, and extends to her family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.
