Greater Eston Consultation - South Bank Retain and Monitor Area

Background

As part of the Greater Eston Masterplan consultation exercise, residents who visited the static exhibition between 7 and 15 November 2008, at Golden Boy Green in South Bank, were asked to provide views on the Retain and Monitor area by completing a short questionnaire and amending a plan of the area. (Appendix 1).

The Retain and Monitor area includes the following streets:

 South Terrace  Oliver Street  Cromwell Road  Pym Street  Edward Street  King Street  Victoria Street  Hampden Street (north side only)  Ann St (parts of)  Harcourt Road (part of)

48 Questionnaires/Plans were completed.

29 of the 48 were completed by residents who indicated that they reside in the Retain and Monitor area.

Analysis of Responses: Table 1 illustrates responses to questions about the demolition and refurbishment of properties within the Retain and Monitor area.

Of those respondents who indicated that more demolition should take place, only four were in favour of wide scale demolition of the Retain and Monitor area.

The streets have been split into blocks and numbered (Appendix 2). This plan has been used to plot the following categories on a spreadsheet (Appendix 3):

Blocks strongly favoured for demolition – with a score of 10+ - blue. Blocks strongly favoured for refurbishment – with a score of 10+ - green. Blocks where respondents were more in favour of demolition than refurbishment – pink. Blocks where respondents were more in favour of refurbishment than demolition – orange. Blocks where the responses were even – white.

The blocks strongly favoured for demolition were:

What are the priorities for this area: respondents were asked to give a score of between 1 and 10 to the following priorities, with 10 being the highest priority. They were also given the opportunity to raise other priorities. Table 2 illustrates the responses, ranked in order of importance.

“Living in 19th century conditions when it is now the 21st century”.
