Welcome to Cheer and Dance Galaxy. We are excited that you have chosen to become part of our program. Our daily goal is to teach our athletes the values of commitment, hard work, integrity, leadership, self- confidence, a positive attitude and a love for the sport. GALAXY EVALUATIONS 2016

NOTE: This is a closed session and parents will NOT be able to watch. After your child is finished with his/her evaluation, he/she will be able to leave. Please keep in mind that even though your athlete is attending a specific level evaluation time, it does not guarantee that they will be placed on a team at that same level.

All new and returning parents will be required to attend one of the pre-evaluation parent meetings prior to their athlete attending the 2016-2017 evaluations.

COMPETITIVE CHEER PROGRAM Competitive teams are broken down by skill and age. Our Competitive Season takes place from mid- May to early April. Squads will practice two to three times a week and will compete in approximately 7-10 competitions, with at least 1 being overnight/2 day competitions.

 If the athlete does not meet the above level requirements, exceptions may be made if candidate excels in jumps, stunting and dance. *Age is determined by the athlete’s age as of August 31, 2016

PLACEMENT OF ATHLETES

The coaches will choose all teams carefully, utilizing the athletes’ skills in order to give Galaxy the best chance to maximize the score sheet in the teams division. When putting our teams together, we also account for team chemistry. In competitive cheer, a very common misunderstanding is related to tumbling. A parent’s idea of their child possessing a skill may be much different from the coach’s standpoint. Simply being able to perform a skill without falling to the ground is no longer adequate for an athlete to “have” that skill. The athlete MUST be able to perform the skill with upper tier technique and consistency. Please note: Simply possessing a certain tumbling skill does not secure a spot on that respective team. Tumbling is NOT the only skill assessed for a Galaxy team placement.

Please note that an athlete’s spot is not guaranteed for a roster spot on that particular team. Athletes who do not have the specific skills needed for a particular Galaxy team, will not be placed on a team. Our staff reserves the right, at any time without notice, to change the roster by rearranging athletes. Some athletes may progress skills faster than others and this tends to cause changes in the roster. No athlete has the right to any particular role or location in the routine. Flying High Cheer & Dance Galaxy will have the final word on teams and parent requests cannot be granted. Team practices will begin Monday, May 11, 2014.

RESULTS Teams will be posted on the GALAXY website (www.FHGalaxy.com) no later than Friday, May 6th, by 7pm. Competitive cheer and dance, while not as costly as some youth activities, can still be an expensive sport. Before you consider this or any program, please carefully consider the financial commitment involved. Our parent Booster Club does many fundraising events throughout the year to help with some of these costs.

There are a number of costs associated with competitive cheer and dance. We are as up-front with our costs as possible. A Galaxy team member will incur all of the following participation costs:

 Annual FH administration fee  Annual USASF Membership fee  Tuition fees (by session except male athletes)  Competition/coaches fees  Uniform fees  Accessory fees (bows, make up, shoes, etc.)  Practice apparel  Galaxy Spirit Group dues  Choreography Camp & Music fee

All Cheer & Dance Galaxy members MUST have a credit card on file (Visa or MasterCard only). Payments will be charged the Monday after each Priority Deadline. If for some reason your credit card is declined, you will receive an email notification, and a $10 declined re-processing fee will be added to your account. Your child(ren) will not be allowed in the gym or to attend practice until an alternate method of payment has been provided. If alternate payment is not provided within a week of the card being declined, a parent meeting or phone call with the Director will be required before the child(ren) may return to practice.

Shoes must be paid for at the time that the order is placed. Uniform fees will be split into two payments; Half will be due at the time of sizing, with the remaining half due at the time of pick up.

IMPORTANT SUMMER 2016 DATES

June 5th, 2016: CPD vs. CFD Football Game Half Time Performance All athletes will perform a short halftime routine at this event! Confirmed date/times will be announced after Galaxy evaluations/team placements. The game is held at Brother Rice High School.

Skills Camp: June 25th – June 30th , 2016

Specific dates will be determined for each team after placements have been announced! Skills camp is mandatory for all athletes to attend. If an athlete is unable to attend skills camp for any reason, they will be given a lesser role in the routine than those athletes who attend skills camp.

WEEK OFF: July 2nd – July 10th , 2016 There will not be any team practices or Gal Tumble classes during this week. Tuition for Session 5 has already been prorated to reflect the week off.

CHOREOGRAPHY CAMP: July 25th – July 28th

Choreography camp is mandatory for ALL athletes! Missing choreography camp is detrimental to the individual athlete, as well as to their entire team. Galaxy uses outside choreography companies to choreograph routines for Levels 2-5.

Full Season Teams will not have regular practices the week of skills camp or choreography camp. Half Season Prep Teams will have regular practices the week of skills camp and choreography camp.

The Choreography fee covers the music and actual choreography, not the hours that a member is in the gym. Choreographers charge per member learning the routine, not who is in attendance the day of camp. If for some reason a member signs up AFTER choreography camp, they will still be charged a choreography fee, as the coaches will need to work them into the routine. No refunds or credits will be given once your choreography camp fee is paid.

Parents can then plan their financial obligations for the competitive cheer program for the entire season.
