Rippleton P.S. Weekly News and Events Friday September 26th, 2014 Welcome: I would like to wish a warm welcome back to school to all of our returning Rippleton families, and welcome to Rippleton P.S. to our new students and their families. We welcomed 334 students to Rippleton beginning September 2nd. Our school continues to grow and as a result we shifted the enrollment in our Grade 1 to 4 classes on September 18th to better balance the number of children in each class and reduced the number of combined grade classes that were in our school organizational model. The first four weeks of school have been very busy with establishing routines, meeting new classmates, and beginning the new school year.
Please join me in welcoming our new staff to Rippleton; Shobie Brown (ECE - Temporary), Susan Cooper (SNA), Jennifer Fenwick (Gym), Carrie McManus (FDK), Christopher Wu (5/6), Alex Templeton (Caretaker – PM). We will be hiring two new ECE’s for the Kindergarten program in October as per the schedule provided by TDSB for support staff postings and interviewing timelines.
I look forward to meeting all of our parents and working with you to ensure that your children have a wonderful 2014 – 2015 school year. I am excited to have joined the Rippleton Team and together with you, I know we will have a fantastic school year! Lynn Chadder, Principal
Rippleton Association of Parents and Teachers (RAPT): Our first RAPT Meeting was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 which was well attended by both parents and staff. Items discussed included enrollment, school initiatives, fundraising, special events, pizza/sub lunches, grade 6 graduation, and the election of the 2014 – 2015 RAPT council. Elected council members are Greg Czylyski, Ayesha Harris, Hanna Kamal, Kelly Pelligrino, Krista Sevdalis, Ambreen Shah and Brenda Yabrov.
Sports and Wellness: Terry Fox Walk/Run – our entire school participated in the Terry Fox Walk/Run on Wednesday, September 24th. Our Kindergarten children walked/ran in the morning and our Grade 1 – 6 students ran several laps in the afternoon. There were many parents who joined us for both walks and the junior students tried to keep up to Mr. Wu who is an experienced runner!
Cross Country Running – we had over 125 grade 1 to 6 students participating on a daily basis to practice, train, and prepare for the Qualifying Meet on Thursday, October 2nd at Earl Bales Park. A huge thank you to our coaches, Buck, D’Angelo, McCormick, Meijer, and Ormos who came early each morning for the past few weeks to help our students prepare for the meet. Our team will consist of 75 students who have demonstrated that they are able to run the required distance for their grade level. Good luck to our Rippleton Roadrunners! Rippleton Spirit Wear – RAPT has organized a Spirit Wear T-shirt sale to enable each of our students, staff, and community members to purchase Rippleton shirts. Youth are $10.00 and adult are $15.00. Sample sizes are available in the office and will be on display at Curriculum Night. We are encouraging all children to have a Rippleton shirt for field trips, spirit days, and school events. Parents who volunteer and assist with school activities are also encouraged to participate to show your Rippleton spirit!
