I. PURPOSE: To establish the command policy in regard to auto-aid and Mutual aid, outside the corporate limits of Joplin.

II. CANCELLATION: 101.8-10-GO III. SCOPE: All Fire Department Members IV. ACTION: 1. Auto-Aid shall be rendered by Joplin Fire Department, The Missouri Department of Transportation offices and the Ozark center facilities on Schifferdecker Ave. that are not within the corporate limits of Joplin. Auto- Aid in these areas shall consist of a full compliment of apparatus as determined by the automated CAD system. 2. Auto aid or Mutual Aid can be rendered to the following Departments & Districts: Carthage, Neosho, Webb City, Galena, Carl Junction, Seneca, Diamond, Duenweg, Redings Mill, Quapaw Fire Department (Down Stream Casino) as per Joplin Ordinance. 3. Mutual Aid request shall come from the highest ranking authority of the requesting public safety agency responding to the event. 4. When an apparatus is dispatched outside of the Joplin City limits in areas other than those named above, it will be done only upon orders of the Fire Chief or highest ranking official available. 5. Only one Fire apparatus, manned by an on duty crew and the on duty Battalion Chief, (if needed) will be sent to a mutual aid .unless the request for further apparatus responds is approved by the Deputy Chief or Fire Chief. 6. Upon receiving the Mutual aid/automatic aid request dispatch will automatically dispatch the Closest Joplin fire unit to the request per the CAD recommendations. The Battalion Chief , Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Chief will be notified of any response outside the City as soon as possible 7. If for any reason the Mutual aid request cannot be met then the on duty Battalion Chief or Call in Battalion Chief will stop the response 8. A Single Company Call in Crew will be requested to replace any crew sent to a mutual aid request when it is apparent that the mutual aid crew will be tied City Of Joplin Fire Department 2 Auto aid and Mutual aid

up for a period of 30 mins or longer. 9. The Captain of an apparatus rendering assistance shall be under the direction of the on scene incident commander. The remaining crewmembers shall be under the direction of their Captain. The Battalion Chief (if they respond) will report to the on scene Incident commander of the requesting agency assistance and assist in any manor needed and will assure the Safe operation of the Joplin Fire Crew. 10. When Communications dispatches an apparatus to a location that is clearly outside of the City of Joplin the Battalion Chief shall ask “Is this a mutual aid request.” If the dispatcher states “this is not a mutual aid request” then the Captain or Battalion Chief shall not respond and shall instruct the dispatcher to notify the appropriate Fire Department or District. 11. When Communications dispatches apparatus to a location that becomes clearly outside of the City of Joplin after a response has began, the closest apparatus will continue its response and will render any aid necessary upon arrival. The Battalion Chief will also request that Dispatch contact the appropriate agency and verify that they do have the call and will ask if assistance is needed or requested for the incident, 12. When Communications dispatches an apparatus to a location that may or may not be outside of the City of Joplin, the Captain in charge of that apparatus, while enroute, shall direct the dispatcher to verify the location to be either inside or outside of the City. If the location is verified as outside of the City the following actions shall be initiated: A. Direct the dispatcher to notify the appropriate response agency. B. The closest apparatus shall continue its response and if the response is a structure fire the Battalion Chief shall direct one additional apparatus to continue their response. All other Apparatus will discontinue their response and will return to service. The apparatus which continue to the scene apparatus shall then provide any services required until properly relieved by the appropriate response agency. Once relieved they shall promptly return to the City. C. Commitment of two apparatus which will clearly be of duration longer than 30 mins shall cause the on duty Battalion Chief to direct dispatch to page a Two Company call in crew.

V. EXCEPTION: Number of apparatus may vary at the discretion of Highest Ranking Chief Officer.
