HSC Library

- We will be renovating the second floor on the north side of the library

- We want this to be a better used space for students

o We want lots of daylight, quite study, student access only (student ID)

o Students want independent study rooms, quiet space; less of a 4x6 room – this is variety for the library – a lot of individual/2-person study space; also informal seating areas where you can sit and study together – this accommodates 115-130 people

o 14 2-seat study rooms; 10 single rooms; 10 single seat; 12 rooms that fit 2-4 people semienclosed; 10 bar seats; 15 soft single seats

- Questions: o Does each seat have outlets? Yes, all will have power and USB

o No flat screens (but maybe rough-in)

o Alternative to nap pods? They will come up with ideas

o Since there is a lot of open seating, are you concerned for noise? In the 2 seaters – the walls will go up to the ceiling, also the area is quiet study; within the single seat, the walls will go 7ft (but not all the way to the top);

o Will there be shades that come down in glass enclosed rooms? It will be glass painted – so you can see through the sides but otherwise you wont be able to see through the middle; from the room out to the open area we haven’t talked about adding anything – frosted sounds better to us

o Glass board we can write on – it will be totally opaque between so it wont interfere

. If person is writing on one side you might be able to hear it on the other side

. What about if people are talking? You might hear a little, but again it is self- monitoring – this is a quiet study area

o How long will this take? Between 3-6 months

. Starts after June 1st

o As far as budgeting goes – we might simplify furniture in order to add nap-pods

o Will there be lamps? Yes

o If we had a kitchenette with a Kurig, fridge and microwave, would that work well? Yes

. If there is a kitchen, could we eat there or in the library? It would be you heat it and go back to where you are studying – you can eat in the library

Treasurer’s Report: Phil Yoon A preliminary budget report was presented. A full report will be available in future minutes.

Committee Updates/Reports: (10 mins/VP) VP will provide updates on committee work(s) from the podium.

o If you register you get 20% off at bookstore

- Higher education town hall, with Young Invincible for higher education funding – Monday 11/7 at 2:00 at Fulginiti

o Morgan Carrol will be there; we are looking for republican vote as well o There will be ice cream – we need students that have compelling stories and who want to ask questions

- Student Election Coverage – we will be watching the election results as a campus on Tuesday Nov 8th from 5-8 PM

- Post election fallout talks – we will get in touch with CU law professors to talk about how certain laws will affect students going forward

o Ex: if minimum wage increase passes – it is a HUGE hit to university – we should know how it affects us

- Senate comment boxes – Wednesday will be comment encouragement days – cookies for comments – we will have these at multiple locations on campus

o Lets do it before next meeting

Finance

- We found out where the money goes – we will send it out.

o Dental: money goes to student council

o Pharm: same as dental

o PT: student council

o AA: student council/national organization membership and activities

o Public health: student council – student events

o Medicine: student council/office of student life

. It doesn’t go to student life – part goes to med student council and then each class gets theirs – councils work on the classes – they vote

o Nursing: student council, events and swag

o Grad school: their money got cut severely so they get a few dollars – but it goes to council – ice cream social and doughnuts and coffee and book club and tea time

. If a lot of people aren’t using the events then talk to schools about it

o Missing a few programs – if you find your student council infective then that is an issue – we should talk about it
