He leveraged his original training in biostatistics and quantitative biology to design a methodology for customer behavior modeling in Marketing CRM applications for Retention, Propensity-to-buy, and Acquisition for NCR Corporation in Teradata data warehouses. Dr. Nisbet was certified as an Expert in Data Mining for the prosecution by the U.S. District Court of Maryland in a case involving theft of data mining intellectual property (judgment for the prosecution). Dr. Nisbet is senior author of a new book from Academic Press, “Handbook of Statistical Analysis and Data Mining Applications” (May, 2009). SIGNIFICANT CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS -Created an industrial failures model that predicted failures of a focal plane array at the 75% level, based on variables derived from fabrication and testing operations. -Organized and trained staff in 9 Centers of Expertise in Data Mining worldwide for NCR Global Sales & Support. -Led programs that brought 4 CRM marketing products to market, 2 of which became flagship products for NCR -Invention disclosures at NCR for Marketing for Customer Acquisition and for churn modeling methodology -The scored list scored by my model that generated a 768% lift over previous segmentation methods -Created a cross-sell marketing model that led to a $1.5 million new revenue stream for BellSouth Communications -Applied churn modeling methodology to create a disenrollment model for a large insurance company. -Managed the data warehousing/data mining marketing Pre-Sales project at JCPenney Catalog Division that successfully loaded the entire catalog database into Teradata and scored it with a SAS program in the required 14-hr window. This success led to the $11 million sale of Teradata system software, hardware, and services to JCPenney in 1998.

Robert Nisbet, Consultant in Data Mining Sciences 2002 – Pres. --Designed and built prospect acquisition modeling systems for the 5 largest AAA clubs in the US. These systems will be installed at the club level in 2006. Invented and developed a modeling methodology for manufacturing process control at Raytheon Electronic Systems, Goleta, a large electronic focal-plane array operation. -Development of a new data mining algorithm for continuous learning in a streaming-mode data environment; currently developing algorithm into a product. -Certification and service as an Expert Witness (Data Mining) for the prosecution in the US District Court of Maryland in the case of DTM vs. AT&T (judgment for the prosecution). -ETL systems analysis and data integration with Ascential DataStage at Eastman Kodak in preparation for analytical systems design (as a contractor through IRI, Inc.).
Fair Isaac & Co., Solution Delivery Director 2003 – 2004 - Credit Risk scorecard analysis and customer training at Wachovia Bank and John Deere Credit. - Development of configurable data mining applications with the Fair Isaac Model Builder Workbench. - SolutionPak product development and sales: creation and marketing of reusable, configurable templates for attrition modeling for CRM marketing purposes for HSBC Bank in Hong Kong. Pre-sales marketing presentations to Hang Seng Bank and Bank of East Asia - Left when my sponsor EVP left the company, and my position was eliminated.
Torrent Systems (Acquired by Ascential Software, a data integration tool vendor) Director of Data Mining Sciences 2000-2002 - Invented Torrent Orchestrate PreludePLUS methodology for delivering low-cost packaged data mining solutions for CRM (churn and cross-sell for marketing purposes. A new department was created to market this product to Telecommunications companies. This product was successfully marketed to Verizon Communications of Massachusetts. - Program management of a team of people that created a ground-breaking model and methodology for phone line attrition at Verizon Communications, providing a 75%+ accuracy in identifying past instances of phone line attrition, enabling Verizon to accurately priortize allocation of $6 billion in network upgrade funds. - Integration of the ETL tool, DataStage, with the Torrent parallel data mining algorithms. - Advanced training in Datastage at Ascential Software. - Left when Ascential decided to discontinue data mining solution development operations.
NCR –Technical Program Manager, Teradata Solutions Group 1999 – 2000 - Managed the program that developed a very low-cost ($50K) proof-of-concept predictive analytics product , ProofPLUS, that could be easily reused and/or expanded to create a Retention/Growth Data Warehouse the NCR data mining solutions used to drive direct marketing programs
Page 2 - Managed a 7-person team that developed a ProofPLUS disenrollment model for Allstate Insurance of Canada. (Property & Casualty). Models for Automobile policies and Property policies predicted household attrition at the 70% level to guide interdiction campaigns to prevent attrition. - Developed NCR Data Mining Centers of Expertise (COE) in 9 major cities of the world; trained staff in modeling methodology with statistical (SPSS) and machine learning tools (Clementine); coordinate COE staff worldwide. - Technical management of a 4-person team that developed a retention model at BCP (Brazilian wireless telecommunications company); to segment existing customers for interdiction campaigns; reduced attrition rate for cell customers by nearly 20%
NCR - Data Mining Solutions Development Engineer/Project Manager 1994-1999 - Chief Modeler in a project for BellSouth to build a propensity-to-buy model for use in marketing a specific calling feature. The marketing campaign produced a 768% lift and a $1.5 Million new revenue stream for BellSouth. - Development Team Manager: ChurnSentry (attrition) and GrowthAdvisor (Marketing cross-sell & up-sell) behavioral predictive analytics solutions for CRM in Telecommunications, resulting in $10 million in sales.. - Project Manager/Modeler –Professional Services: Army-Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Retail Forecasting Project. 1996. Created customer demand models for 1000 categories of merchandise. This project won the NCR Best-Practices award for 1996. - Project Manager of a Data Mining Expanded Proof-of-Concept (EPOC) at JC Penney in 1996. Successful completion led to a sale of an $11 million Teradata system and data warehouse development for the Catalog business unit. - Modeler: Created sales forecasting models for Meijer Corp. at the category/store level -Co-managed a retail data mining team (8 people).
