"A school system should have ideals which shape its destiny."

Kansas Teacher and Western School Journal, Volume XLV, Number Four, Sept 1937, pg. 5 - F. L. Schlagle, one of the youngest city superintendents of the Middle West, is not young to Kansas City, for he has served the school system of the city since 1908. In these twenty-four years he has held grade and high school administrative positions, and from 1924 to 1932 was assistant superintendent of schools. In the five years of his superintendency, the new Wyandotte High School has materialized and plans are under way for a new Sumner High School. Mr. Schlagle is interested not only in buildings, but is vitally concerned with teacher welfare, as is shown by the new tenure law for his city. A hard hitting, efficient, eventuating administrator and educational expert, Superintendent Schlagle is leading his community in better things. - C.W.

Old Kerr School, 3650 State, was established in 1868 as District 2 of Wyandotte County. First one-room stone building, in 1906 a three-room brick addition was erected. District 2 was annexed to the city system in May, 1911. Mr. F. L. Schlagle, superintendent of KCKs schools from 1932 to 1962, was Kerr principal from 1913 to 1916.

In 1916, Central Junior High School, sometimes referred to as the Whittier Junior High School or just "the junior high school", opened in September with an enrollment of 800. H. P. Shepherd from Atchison was appointed the first principal, and F. L. Schlagle, former Kerr School principal, was named assistant principal.

In 1921, Principal F. L. Schlagle planned a grand review of high school work on April 6. The idea of showing a class work to parents was original with the Argentine High School. Only seven absences at the evening session were reported. Mr. Schlagle was pleased with the attendance of 800 visitors, and newspapers hailed the demonstration as unique in the state and maybe in America.
