An 22 increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or 23 supervision. Young people need to know someone cares about 24 them; and 25 26 Whereas, by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, 27 belonging, and influence, Boys & Girls Clubs offer that vital 28 caring and more through programs and services that promote and 29 enhance the development of boys and girls; and 30 31 Whereas, the Boys & Girls Clubs in South Carolina provide 32 programs in character and leadership development, health and life 33 skills, education and career development, sports and recreation, 34 and the arts; and 35 36 Whereas, truly the “Positive Place for Kids,” Boys & Girls Clubs 37 provide a safe place to learn and grow while having fun; and 38 39 Whereas, eightysix Boys & Girls Club sites in fortythree cities of 40 the Palmetto State serve more than fifty thousand youth each year; 41 and 42

[4152] 2 1 Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to 2 learn that ten young people from different Boys & Girls Clubs 3 throughout the Palmetto State have been named 2017 South 4 Carolina Youth of the Year for their respective clubs. These youth 5 and their clubs are as follows: Jordan Joseph Ulshafer of Shaw Air 6 Force Base Youth Program, Erykah JaNay Robertson of Salvation 7 Army Boys & Girls Club of Sumter, LeAjah Alexus Favorite of 8 Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand, Starasia Carson of 9 Orangeburg Area Boys Club, Keiona Marshall of Boys & Girls 10 Clubs of the Lowcountry, Destiny Q. Graham of Joint Base 11 Charleston Youth Program, Jazmine Elizabeth Prince of Boys & 12 Girls Clubs of the Midlands, Deriayna Sandell Wilson of Boys & 13 Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area, Brandon A. Jackson of USAG 14 Fort Jackson CYS Services, Devin L. Zerr of Joint Base 15 Charleston NAS Youth Program; and 16 17 Whereas, cognizant that South Carolina’s Boys & Girls Clubs are 18 a sound and prosperous investment in the youth of our State, the 19 South Carolina General Assembly takes great pleasure in 20 recognizing and honoring these ten outstanding young people for 21 their accomplishment and in commending and thanking the club 22 staff and volunteers for their critical roles in shaping the lives of 23 these youth. Now, therefore, 24 25 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 26 concurring: 27 28 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this 29 resolution, commend the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Carolina for 30 their extraordinary efforts in helping South Carolina’s youth 31 prepare for a productive life and recognize the ten young people 32 from different Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the State who have 33 been named 2017 Youth of the Year by the South Carolina 34 Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs. 35 36 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 37 each of the ten young people named 2017 Youth of the Year. 38 XX 39
