Speech by Simon Gibson

Simon Gibson OBE is the patron of Swansea Employability Academy. He is Chief Executive of Wesley Clover Foundation, which is a Venture Fund specialising in seeding technology companies. He has broad management experience in high-technology industries in both North America and Europe. Before joining Wesley Clover, he was co-founder, President and CEO of Ubiquity Software Corporation. Ubiquity was named Innovator of the year in 2001 by the British Venture Capital Association. He has been the recipient of four National R&D awards and was made a Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to industry and to the community in South Wales in 1999. Simon is an advisor to several government bodies including the National Economic Research Advisory panel. Simon is the Chair of Digital Wales and is a member of Ofcom’s National Advisory Committee. Simon is the founder and a trustee of the Alacrity Foundation. The Alacrity Foundation is in the business of creating the next generation of technology entrepreneurs. With the mandate

6 of turning engineering and business students and recent graduates into entrepreneurs, the Foundation will give grants to the right individuals and teams to develop new technological solutions. .

Rachel Bryan - Rachel grew up in Bristol and as a teenager travelled extensively in the Caribbean and Peru, doing charity work. She then returned to the UK to begin her BA degree in Translation and immediately after finishing university she set up Veritas Language Solutions Ltd, a translation, interpreting and language services company.

Sharon Stephens - After starting her career as Welsh Ladies Tennis Champion, then

7 becoming a travel rep, Sharon decided to pursue a career in translating and completed a degree in translation with 1st class honours in 2009. Immediately afterwards she set up her international company Veritas Language Solutions Ltd which offers translation, interpreting and language services.

Ben Donovan – Programme Editor & Press Officer, Swansea City Football Club

After studying History at Swansea, Ben graduated in 2011. During his time here he was actively involved in the Students Union, writing for the Waterfront newspaper for two years and later becoming the Sports Editor in his final year. It was during this time that he brought a range of high profile interviews to the newspaper, such as Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers, Wales international Joe Allen and Commonwealth swimmer Jazz Carlin. On the back of this and his other work, Ben was offered the chance to join the media department at Swansea City as they entered the Premier League. He is responsible for dealing with national newspapers, organisations such as Sky Sports and the BBC and

9 writing content for both the website and matchday magazine.
