What is Compass Learning?  Compass Learning is an online product designed to differentiate instruction based on ability and previous assessment results. Fast Facts:  Every student has his/her own username and password.  The program offers several grade-level courses, as well as Keystone courses.  The program includes K – 8 Reading/ELA and Math, K – 6 Science, and High School English, Math, Science, Social Studies including Keystone Algebra I, Literature, and Biology.  Each subject is made up of topics based on PA Standards and Eligible Content.  Each topic includes a pre-test and post-test.  Each topic contains lessons, practice questions, and explanations for incorrect answer selections. How do I log in to Compass Learning?  Go to https://www.thelearningodyssey.com/  Enter your username, password, and school.  The username is the student’s district identification number.  The password assigned is the student’s last name.  The school codes for the school buildings are: BES, ESE, MSE, SES, JMH, RESICA, JTL, LIS, EHS, or EHN.  Please contact Teresa Lazor at 570-424-8500 ext. 1616 with any access issues. How does my child use Compass Learning?  After signing into Compass Learning, the student may select learning paths based upon their most recent MAPS scores, or they may choose to work in any assigned classes or courses.  Some courses provide a pre-assessment to determine the student’s strengths and needs.  The system creates an individualized learning path with explicit instructions and learning activities for each student, based on his or her specific needs and abilities.  Instruction is delivered through reading passages, manipulatives, videos, and animations.  The instruction is based on current and confirmed research around how young minds think and learn, and is directly aligned to State and Common Core Standards.  As students complete the online, interactive activities, Odyssey provides ongoing assessment to help track progress towards academic goals in real time. How do I monitor my child’s progress?  Parents can request access to their student’s account.  Students can also share their progress by clicking on their Backpack at the top left corner of their homepage once they log into Compass Learning. All of the completed tasks and grades will be listed.
