Interview script:

(1) Reporter: As the Beer Hall Putsch failed, you were in prison. And the Nazi Party became fragmented and disorganized. Why do you want to continue revolutions?

Adolf Hitler: The Beer Hall Putsch didn’t end my political career. It make me became a nationally and internationally known figure. And I was very confident that I could make use of my skills and abilities such as effective propaganda and emotional public speeches to reorganize the party. The most important was that the Weimar Republic was (Election) unstable. The government failed to bring stable life to people. The Germany’s economy had been damaged severely. Although it had tried hard to improve the situation in the country, the Great Depression of 1929 further worsened the economy. Many businessmen went bankrupt and the unemployment rates were high and so on. Thus, we wanted to overthrow the Weimar Republic and brought hope to Germans.

(2) Reporter: In the First World War, Germany had surrendered to the Allies in 1918. Why do you still want to start the Second World War?

Adolf Hitler: After the First World War, the Paris Peace Conference was held to discuss the postwar settlements. There was no discussion between the victorious and defeated countries. To Germany, the Treaty of Versailles was unbearable. Firstly, Alsace- Lorraine was returned to France and the Saar was given to France for 15 years. West Prussia, Posen and a part of Upper Silesia were given to Poland. Danzig (WW2~Map) became a free city and mandate by the League of Nation. All oversea colonies were taken away. Secondly, the sole responsibility for having caused the First World was bore by Germany. Thirdly, Germany had to pay a huge sum of reparations to compensate the losses of the Allies. The treaty terms were too harsh for Germans. And it was a great shame for us and our nations. We felt humiliation. So we wanted to restore the glory of Germany, threw off the shackles of the treaty and became a great nation in the world again.

(3) Reporter: In the First World War, Germany carried out the Schlieffen Plan and in the Second World War, Germany used the Blitzkrieg tactics. Which one is more successful? Adolf Hitler: I think that using the Blitzkrieg tactics is more successful. It is because the Schlieffen Plan suggested a rapid attack on France before striking Russia on the Eastern front. Germany expected that Russia would need six months to mobilize her army. Then Germany would have enough time to (Trench) knock France out of the war before turning her efforts toward Russia. Firstly, Germany attacked France through Belgium. However, the German forces met fierce Belgian resistance. In addition, the German advance into France was successfully resisted by the French and British forces. It underestimates the (Aircrafts) enemies. Once and for all, a long trench was dug and the Schlieffen Plan failed. During the Second World War, Germany used the Blitzkrieg tactics. In three months, Germany conquered Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Holland and France. In 1941, nearly the whole of Europe (expect Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal and Turkey) was controlled by Germany. So the Blitzkrieg tactics is more successful. (4) Reporter: Why do you want to choose Italy and Japan as your allies during the Second World War?

Adolf Hitler: As Italy failed to get what she wanted in the Paris Peace Conference, Italians saw the settlement as a great humiliation. It was same as Germany. When Mussolini came to be strong man, he promised to revive the greatness of Italy. And he was the leader of Fascist Party and the major ideas of Fascism seemed to Nazism’s. We had the same goal and our relations were close, so we signed an (Mussolini) agreement of cooperation and formed the Berlin-Rome Axis. This could obtain extra living space in Central Europe. At the same time, Japan wanted to expand herself and moved closer to Germany. If one more countries joined us, we could achieve our target quickly. So the Berlin-Rome-Tokyo was formed.

(5) Reporter: During the Second World War, you sent Jews to concentration camp and gas chambers. Why do you want to kill the Jews?

Adolf Hitler: As the Germans were a pure of Aryan decent, we were the Best. We will be destined to master the world. All non-Aryan, especially the Jews were ‘subhumans’. They should be destroyed. When the Jews lived with us in the same country, they will be polluted the pure Germans race by intermarriages and weakened the master('Eternal Jews' exhibition) race. I had written a book called ‘Mein Kampf’ about it. Therefore, I should keep the pure German race and (Holocaust) exterminate the Jews.
