DTF Cohort 11 - Consolidation Event 18 and 19 May 2017

Preparation for the event

This information is to help you begin your preparation for the consolidation event.

The purpose of the event is to support you in your transition from the end of this phase of the programme and into the next phase of your development. Specifically, the event is an opportunity for you to  take stock and think about where you have come from and how you have used the opportunities from the programme  consider your learning from the programme in dialogue with invited guests explaining o what matters to you and to offer them some fresh thinking o the impact on service delivery and the return on investment for NHS Scotland  reflect upon where you are going as a strategic leader and what will help you to get there.

Format of event

The first day will consist of action learning in the usual format. The format for the second day will be as follows  in the morning you will work in groups of 4 ( 2 groups per ALS) to lead a dialogue with our invited guests  in the afternoon you will share and discuss your leadership journey with your cohort colleagues

Some information on the suggested content and approach for your introduction to the dialogue follows The key focus is to  share your leadership learning and how it has impacted upon your style and  what specific outputs you have achieved as a result of any changed/adapted behaviour resulting from this learning The slot will last for one hour - this time is to include your introduction, dialogue with your guests and time for questions to be addressed. Your slot will run twice in the morning to 2 different guests - we hope to have at least 8 guests so you will have different guests at each of your slots. The dialogue should be all of the following- if possible!  Interesting  Stimulating  Thought provoking  Interactive  Creative Your introduction should begin the dialogue by sharing some of what matters to you. The following questions may help you to prepare your introduction  What are the hard outputs, and what is the key learning, from the overall DTF programme?  What learning has been particularly powerful and why?  What aspects of the programme have enabled progress?  What has got in the way of progress? What is the learning from this?  What themes, if any, are emerging that might inform what the future will look like?  What will this mean for us as strategic leaders?

DTF C11 Cons event – prep information draft 1 October 2016 In relation to the afternoon session you will be asked to bring 3 objects that describe  Where you were at the beginning of the DTF programme  Where you are now  Where you hope to be in the future You will work in trios (across ALS) to tell your stories about your leadership journey. The following questions may help you prepare your story  What is different about me?  What did I, and others, do to make this happen?  What has been the impact of my leadership (on my team, on my organisation, on policy, on service users)?  What do I currently see about where I am going?  How can I best maintain my contribution and impact as a strategic clinical leader?  What needs to happen next to sustain me on my leadership journey?  How will I keep the momentum going?

Action at December masterclass

By the end of the December masterclass you should have agreed 1. The make- up of your 2 groups of 4 within your ALS 2. how your group of 4 will work together between now and the May masterclass to prepare your introduction for the dialogue with our invited guests

In choosing your groups of 4 it may be worth trying to identify something that you have in common or related that you have around your leadership journey. For example it may be that a particular element of the DTF programme has had most impact- a specific masterclass, the ALS , the coaching, the networking, your QIP, insight from MBTI and how this has enhanced your interaction with others. Or it could be something very specific about your leadership style and approach that you have changed or adopted. The choice is yours- the important thing is that you can find a way to integrate your introduction so that all 4 of you are involved and can share your learning and the impact it has had / is having

We will send you a more detailed programme for the Consolidation event before the end of March 2017.
