Principal’s Report – Shirley Choy-Marshall for Mrs. Mohamed

-Mrs. Mohamed not able to attend tonight due to injury. Technology update-Mrs. Mohamed was given budget of $24,605.00 to spend on Technology upgrades with some caveats from the District. She will work with Debbie Walker to come up with plan on how to spend (possibly get Chrome Books for 3-5th grades to catch up on adaptive learning?) She may also have some upcoming requests for HIPS to help fund larger technology updates (i-Pads, etc.)

Treasurer’s Report/Proposed Budget-ShirleyChoy-Marshall for Anna Given

-Anna not able to attend, but left reports for review. Budget Committee determines proposed budget for HIPS approval. We could use more people to participate on Budget Committee.

Old Business

Total donations were $69,017.09. 80% participation; 13 Platinum donors ($1,000); 30 Gold Donors ($500); 22 Silver Donors ($375); 35 Bronze Donors ($275); 50 PayPal Donors ($10,877 in donations through PayPal). 18 Classes won ice cream parties. Thank you to Membership Committee (Shannon Yager; Holly Luscher, Krista Kleidon, Scott Boor, & Keith Flemming & Anna Given for help with company matching funds). We are now on to Phase II of drive (directory printing, distributing thank you gifts, planning ice cream, pizza, & crayfishing parties, etc.)

Outdoor Workday (Shirley Choy-Marshall/Michelle Unger)-(Shirley)-72 volunteers signed in for 1st Outdoor Workday last Sunday (09/15). 19 were Southwest employees who replaced old stripped spickets in garden beds. New scent bed was planted in Kinder area for Mrs. Weisshahn’s science lessons; also, lots of pruning & weeding done. Thank you to Allison Pruitt & Nicole Walberg for lunch food. Next Outdoor Workday is Oct. 19th. (Michelle U.)-A Hacienda family is employee of Southwest Airlines & offered to bring their “Spirit Day Team” to our school for a community project. A banner was made to say “Thank You” to Southwest.

Dinner Night- Stephanie Flemming- We made $445.00 from Bogey’s dinner night. Next Dinner Night Out is November 5th at Chili’s. Can “double dip” by using SCRIP gift cards to pay. There may be two nights in a row to split up crowds.

Hicklebee’s author visits (Michelle Unger)-Kinder through 2nd grades were visited by Bruce Hale, author of “Clark the Shark”. On Oct. 8th, 3rd through 5th grade will meet Adam Gidwitz, author of “A Tale Dark & Grimm”. Students may purchase the book and have it signed. If purchased from Hicklebee’s, our school librarian gets 10% to purchase books.

New Business

Food Truck-Movie Night –Astrid Escobedo & Ashley King

Astrid-More volunteers needed for movie night. Most help needed in beginning for concessions. Also need donations of baked goods.

Ashley-There have been issues getting food trucks to commit. Some have committed and backed out because they want a minimum guarantee of sales. We currently have 4 food trucks coming. Volunteers are needed for set-up & clean-up. Please spread the word to friends, neighbors to come support the event. In future, do not recommend Food Truck night on a Friday due to difficulty getting trucks to commit.

Fall Festival (Melissa Belur)-Will be on Friday, October 25th. This is a huge family/community event with carnival games, crazy hair booth, face painting, food, etc. We need many volunteers especially Chairs for: Food/Drinks & Set-up. There will be no raffle this year. Instead we are trying something new. There will be grade level baskets which will be auctioned off by blind bid. We need leads to organize baskets for K, 1st, 3rd, & 5th grades. Fall Festival kick-off meeting was yesterday. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be coming home in Thursday folders.

Spring Fling (Stephanie Flemming) - Catherine Lavin will be chairing Spring Fling this year. We need a Walk-a-thon chair to take her place. Chairing is a great experience; you meet many new people (teachers, other parents, kids). Many people available to help & support each other. PEST Program (Laura Prijatel) - PEST (Parents Encouraging Superior Teachers & Staff) is a teacher appreciation program. Very happy with the amount of volunteers who have signed up. Still need a few more volunteers. The goal is to expand the program this year to cover more teachers (Preschool, Special Ed.).

Walk One Week/Green Team (Michelle Unger)-Walk to school week is Oct. 7-11th to encourage walking, biking, and carpooling. We need a Green Team Chair to carry on the program. Green Team helps with recycling, cleaning out & recycling Capri Sun packets, promotes “Going Green” themes such as “trash free Friday. “

Scrip/Shed Organization-Michelle Scripoch –Will be selling SCRIP gift cards on playground twice per week. It’s very easy to sign up online. Everything you do, you can use SCRIP. We encourage being more conscious and trying to use SCRIP as much as possible. Big purchases can benefit the school if you buy SCRIP Gift cards to pay (i.e. Home Depot card for home projects, etc.) Some cards can be printed at home or downloaded to your smartphone. Some cards can be reloaded.

Shed is being organized by fundraiser (Spring Fling, Fall Festival). There is room for Art Vista, Sprouts, etc. If you need space, let me know. We now have a volunteer to build a ramp for sheds.

Traffic Safety (Shirley Choy-Marshall)-There have been some near misses recently with traffic safety. We need to open the discussion, and come up with ideas to help improve safety for our kids before we have any incidents. Do we need an education program, traffic safety volunteers, maybe a safety committee, traffic monitors/crossing guards? This topic needs further discussion. Melisa McCoy-Evans will spearhead the issue.

Announcements:

Animal Adoptions-This will be kicking off soon. Adopters not required to pay full cost of each animals care, only a donation. Adopters are allowed hold animals on animal holding days, get their name on plaque & will receive photo with their animal.

Thursday Folders (Michelle Crespin)-Thursday folders will start this week. There was a delay due to issues getting correct class rosters. We encourage everyone to consider going paperless. Volunteers always needed to help stuff folders @ 9:00 on Thursdays. Flyers for folders need to be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, include a PDF, too.

E-scrip (Pam Crone)-Please re-register your Safeway card every year by Nov. 1st. Credit & debit cards can be registered, too. Encourage family members to register their cards for E-Scrip.
