1 South Carolina General Assembly 2 120th Session, 2013-2014 3 4 S. 361 5 6 STATUS INFORMATION 7 8 Senate Resolution 9 Sponsors: Senator O'Dell 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\rm\1098ab13.docx 11 12 Introduced in the Senate on February 12, 2013 13 Adopted by the Senate on February 12, 2013 14 15 Summary: Starr-IVA Dixie Youth Softball Team 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 2/12/2013 Senate Introduced and adopted ( Senate Journalpage 5) 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 2/12/2013 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE STARR-IVA 12 DIXIE YOUTH SOFTBALL TEAM FOR ITS IMPRESSIVE 13 WIN OF THE 2012 DIXIE PONYTAILS WORLD SERIES 14 CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS, 15 COACHES, AND STAFF ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON. 16 17 Whereas, softball is a game of speed, power, precision, and agility, 18 but to excel in softball, a team must combine these talents with 19 teamwork and good sportsmanship; and 20 21 Whereas, representing South Carolina, the Starr-Iva Dixie Youth 22 Softball team of Anderson County captured the 25th Richard T. 23 Murphy, Sr., Dixie Ponytails World Series Championship title by 24 convincingly uniting all these attributes in one unstoppable team, 25 defeating Columbia County, Georgia, in the title game on August 26 1, 2012; and 27 28 Whereas, the Starr-Iva Dixie Youth Softball team was led by 29 coaches Nakia Davis, Kelsey Davis, and Danny Davis, and 30 included players Ryleigh Davis, Kayla Pepper, Chandler Payton, 31 Marley McBride, Kalysta Addison, Kinsley Norris, Faith Therrell, 32 Ayana Louden, Brooke Richey, Ellison Garren, Julia Martin, and 33 Autumn Shaw; and 34 35 Whereas, backed by a rich history of outstanding softball, the 36 Starr-Iva team went undefeated in the District 7 Championship 37 tournament and the State tournament before carrying its winning 38 ways to the 2012 playoffs in Hartsville, held July 27August 1. 39 Following a parade through downtown Hartsville, the Starr-Iva 40 team owned the town as the first team from South Carolina ever to 41 win the Ponytails championship when they defeated Georgia 111; 42 and
[361] 2 1 2 Whereas, it is with immense pleasure that the South Carolina 3 Senate pauses to recognize the accomplishments and dedication of 4 these fine athletes and their coaches and to congratulate them on 5 their success. Now, therefore, 6 7 Be it resolved by the Senate: 8 9 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 10 recognize and congratulate the Starr-Iva Dixie Youth softball team 11 for its impressive win of the 2012 Dixie Ponytails World Series 12 championship, and to honor the players, coaches, and staff on an 13 outstanding season. 14 15 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 16 Coach Nakia Davis, Coach Kelsey Davis, and Coach Danny Davis. 17 XX 18
