1. Introductions shared.

2. Two employers shared their needs for job applicants and answered questions from job developers present.

Wells has 16 divisions and 27 recruiters in Des Moines alone.  Each division determines how to hire. For example, Wells Fargo Mortgage often uses staffing agencies to hire temps when there is an onslaught of need/new mortgages. Other departments hire directly.  Customer service roles are in high demand/need applicants. Qualifications: ability to talk on the phone, answer questions, trouble shoot, multi task, empathy. Make $11.54/hr. No credit check.  Collector roles also in high demand. Qualifications: selling person on the need to pay, plus same as above. Make $11.25/hr. + can make a monthly bonus of up to $425! No credit check. Both: need good computer skills as they go through multiple computer screens quickly to get answers, info. Need to be organized, able to take calls and type at the same time, ability to connect with people. All employers want job applicants who want this/the specific job for which the applicant is interviewing!!  Kim has no part time jobs. Every 6 months the employee is reviewed and can receive a bump in pay.  Wells has career pathways to move people up. After 1 year can change jobs.  Benefits kick in, in 30 days.  Education: mininum /High School Diploma.  Red flags/possible excluders: There is a Federal law that requires fingerprinting for any employee handling/working with money, If a financial services firm receives money from the government, ie. the government is a client of theirs. Wells for example has the federal government as a client; Nationwide does not. This is not an arbitrary rule of the financial institution. How to change? Advocacy to federal government. Also crimes of “mistrust”- bouncing a check, crimes that harmed another person  Also, those organizations working with the government are required to take online applications only; can’t hand a hard copy to a recruiter at a job fair for example. However, with Nationwide you could.

Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa & HCI Care Services (formerly known as Hospice of Central Iowa): the 2 organizations have merged; 1 HR department. They have employees in 35 counties across Iowa.  Roles include: information technology, administrative assistants, family support advocate, plus various other professional roles.  Frequently open roles: Homemaker Aides-these folks have their Certified Nursing Assistant education and certification. Can obtain nursing assistant education at DMACC, Mercy College, Kaplan, and others. These people work with patients in a residential setting like a home or long term care facility. They may bathe patient, feed, dress, ambulate, etc. Homemaker Companion- have no formal health care training but a desire to work with patients. Roles include visiting with patients, playing games, running errands, making meals, light housekeeping. Job applicants for these 2 roles must have reliable transportation and the bus is not adequate.  Red flags/possible excluders: often domestic/child/adult abuse, crimes involving drugs. NOTE: DHS makes the final decision. Denise Gonzales will answer questions. DHS looks at remorse, rehabilitation, time between crime and application, letters of reference. 3. Helene Grossman, CIW Program Manager introduced new CIW Workforce Strategist, Soneeta Mangra-Dutcher. Her first week. She will be working with each workforce partnership facilitator and job developers. She would like to meet you.
