EVHS NJROTC BOOSTER CLUB MEETING August 12, 2013

I. Welcome by Kristi Swann to new parents and introduction of the Board Members

II. Liberty Battalion Report from the CO:

Ms. Shayleyn Fisher, Liberty Battalion CO, reported that RAMP was complete and the Cadets would be participating in the Community Service portion of RAMP on Friday August 16 at the Heritage Community Gardens as well as assisting the high school teachers in preparation for the start of school.

III. Treasurer’s Report

a. Brian Mersiovsky reported that he received the financial books from last year and the financial audit is complete.

b. We have $12,243.34 in our account. 2 checks are outstanding.

c. We have received $790 in Fair Share Fees.

d. Kristi Swann suggested that we move last year’s excess money from the Military Ball back to the Military Ball line. Tonya Davis made a motion that we do this and Kelly Appice seconded the motion. The motion was approved by the Booster Club.

e. Kristi Swann suggested that we add a line item added to the budget for each instructor to have $150.00 to spend throughout the year for miscellaneous items. Peggy Stephens made a motion and Susan Freshour seconded it. It was approved by the Booster Club.

f. A mock-up of the new Liberty Battalion parade banner was distributed. Kyle Fisher made a motion that we purchase the new banner and Julie Kinslow seconded. The Booster Club voted to purchase the banner. Tracy Shaw will contact the printing company and make the order.

IV. Community Service:

Cadets will be participating in a Community Service Day at the Heritage Community Gardens on Friday, August 16, 2013, 7a.m. – 12p.m. For event details please see Captain Gusman’s website.

a. Reminder – background checks: all parents who want to be volunteers must complete a background check. The link is now up on the District web-site.

Please forward the e-mail you receive stating that your background check has been completed, to [email protected]

V. Reminder – Paperwork and Fair Share Fees: Please turn in all of your Cadet’s paperwork and Fair Share Fee. If you are unable to pay your Fare Share Fee, please contact Captain Gusman and discuss with him.

VI. Upcoming Events Note: This year, a board member will be designated as the chairperson for major events. This will make it easier to pay for items and will not put undue financial stress on parents to pay out of pocket to cover event expenses. Minor events can be chaired by a parent volunteer. If you want to be a chairperson for an event, please contact Kristi Swan.

a. AMI September 11.

i. We will need 3 volunteers to help cadets dress, do hair or serve the luncheon.

ii. This will be a modified, smaller event than in years past.

b. Prairie View Drill Meet – a final date has not been determined

i. We do not need parent volunteers for this event.

c. Fall Social/Paintball – September 28th

i. Chairperson will be a Board Member

ii. We do need parent volunteers for this event. If you are interested, please send a note to [email protected]

VII. Captains Report

a. The Captain reviewed events that the Cadets have been participating in this summer. b. The set-up and furnishing of the new facilities is coming along, but they are still waiting on desks, computers and some exercise equipment.

c. Cadets should be targeting 30 hours of community service per year. 10 during Summer and 10 each semester. Community Service documentation forms for Cadet service can be found on Captain’s Web-site.

d. Event orders can also be found on the Captain’s web-site. Remember that not only parents need to sign these forms, but Cadets as well.

e. Please support our local VFW and American Legion veteran groups. The VFW has a Fish and Chicken Fry the last Friday of each month and the American Legion has a Philly Cheese Steak Night the 3rd Friday of the month.

Please turn in all paperwork and your fair share fee. Next Booster Club Meeting will be September 9th.
