State of Qatar Visa Requirements

Dear International Student,

Congratulations once again on your admittance to Northwestern University in Qatar! We are looking forward to having you join us in August. The following documents are requirements specifically for incoming international students who do not live in Qatar.

The State of Qatar requires students who are studying and living in Qatar to enter the country on a Permanent Entry Visa. Upon entry, all students must obtain a residence permit. The following items are required in order for our office to process the visa and permit. Please scan and email copies of the requested documents. All documents must be received in our office by May 20, 2017.

. Visa application form (below) . Color copy of your passport . At least two passport-size photos (non-white background) – scan one copy to NU-Q and carry at least two with you to Qatar . Document that states your blood type - This can either be a document from a hospital or clinic, a copy of your government ID card if it states your blood type on it, or a copy of a blood donor card

Within one week of entry into Qatar, the residence permit process must begin. All documents above, plus your physical passport must be submitted to Tiffany Ho, the International Experience Manager. Qatar Foundation will then schedule a medical test, which will screen for turburculosis and HIV. After which, you will need to present yourself to the Ministry of Interior for finger-printing. Once all is complete, you will receive a residence permit/Qatar ID. You may not travel during this process and it can take 3-6 weeks.

Please note that Eid Al-Adha is a national holiday and school will be cancelled from the week of September 3 – 7, 2017. Your permanent entry visa is valid for only one entry into Qatar and NU-Q will make every effort to complete your RP process by September 1. Therefore, if you wish to travel during this week, please do so at your own risk and we advise you to make refundable plans. Please note that NU-Q is not responsible for any travel cancellation fees during this time.

Regarding “Date of Arrival in Qatar” – the residence halls will be open for move-in beginning Wednesday, August 9, 2017. NU-Q International Student Orientation begins Friday, August 11, 2017 so we advise that you arrive in Qatar no later than Thursday, August 10.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions by emailing [email protected].
