The major project for the semester is a 1250 word formal essay on a topic related to Modern History. The Moncton High School Essay Format must be followed.
Here are the steps to follow: - choose a topic - start you research - keep track of your sources for your bibliography - prepare an outline - write a draft - write your final copy with a title page, a bibliography and the proper footnotes (MLA)
The criteria used to evaluate: - organization (format and ideas) 40% - writing 10% - content 50%

Requirements – Research one of the topics on the opposite page. Your essay must: Be written in your own words. If even one sentence is plagiarized, it will result in result in a loss of marks and will be reported to the administration. Follow the MHS essay format. (Purdue OWL: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/) Use three different sources of information. One of these must be a book Be a minimum of 1000 words. Not exceed 1500 words. Have a title page as outlined in the “Essay Format” Cite references wherever necessary (in text referencing). Use three quotations and cite the reference appropriately. Quotations should be about one sentence in length. Include an appropriated Work Cited page.
Helpful Hints: 1. A paragraph should be one complete idea (3 to 5 sentences). 2. A good essay contains: . An Introduction- One or two paragraphs presenting thesis . A Body- Well written paragraphs that add to the argument . A Conclusion- One or two paragraphs restating the main points or central idea.
