Minutes from Meeting #2 (2011-2012) at DCIU #25 – November 3, 2011

Those present:

Unfinished Business:
1. Discussion of how to better market our professional development programs.
A. Possibility of partnering with school districts- common in-service day
ie: Election day
B. Possibility of partnering with other councils – Philadelphia Art Museum with J. Pinkney
2. Potential professional development programs for 2012-2113 school year.
A. Fall tea with Jolene Borgese author of new book, “Moving Students in the Write Direction”
Discussion:
i. Middle School base, need to get topic more engaging for all teachers, esp. elementary
ii. Question is focus writing or reading? Need to fit topic into something timely
3. Curriculum Directors Meeting – Oct. 19th – A. Jay’s presentation
A. Sparse attendance for presentation
B. Informed those there of DCRC participation in literacy events, Young Author’s, Reading Olympics
C. Nonproductive as faras stimulating interest in promoting stronger district participation
4. Young Author letter approved with change of date – Rosemary Fowler will check website for guidelines. New Business:
1. KSRA Conference – report A. Jay
A. DCRC recognized as Honor Council, Leader Award
A. Very effective general sessions – consensus felt it was a good conference with ideas to take back and put into practice.
B. Not as populated as usual
C. Next year location Seven Springs
2. Form 990 will be completed by Nick Spennato and Annemarie B. Jay
Committee Reports:
1. Shelia Bell –Doctor’s Reading project at St. Christopher’s Hospital
A. DCRC will support -Encourage participants in all council events to bring new or gently used book donations to all events.
